It is weird that you would say that since working with artists is a requirement of his profession. All of his major projects have been developed with artists and he has gone out of his way to make sure they get equal credit for the work and has given them the proceeds from the movies.

I don't think it is egomaniacal for a writer to wish his work would be left to stand on its own without a film adaptation. I'm sure there are many authors who have refused to sell the film rights to their work. I guess it is because of some weird contracts with the comic companies that keeps Moore from retaining those rights.

V for Vendetta was the only movie so far that even came close to the source material, but the changes made in the third act completely changed the point of the story, and ruined the movie for me.

I can see this doing really well theatrically, if pulled off. I think audiences so far have responded well to comic properties that weren't well known by the public but executed well. See: Ghost World, Sin City, 300, Road to Perdition. Then again, there are so many other comic movies with good characters that are simply riding their popularity and fail miserably - take the Punisher and Ghost Rider.

Ghost Rider didn't fail miserably, it was the total opposite if you were talking about doing well theatrically. And Ghost World wasn't received at all by audiences, barely making 8 mil on a 7 mil budget.

Sorry. Bit of an overstatement. I meant they weren't received well critically, not necessarily with regards to sales.

I can't agree, not when he's worked with dozens of artists over the years and they agree in interviews that he's an excellent partner. He's even fought for the rights of his artist friends to get creators rights, something few writers ever do. The issue is very simply, filmmakers have screwed up his work time and time again.

Totally, those look great, they are really keep the feel of the novel.

I am curious what they do with the pirate story. Honestly, for pacing, they might have to cut it.

I was wondering the same thing. The picture of that kid reading the comic gives me hope though.

Watchmen in trouble? FOX is laying claim. Guess we might see a co-studio release? Weird since WB owns DC . . .

http://www.aintitcool.com/node/35579

The other big suit that hit today was filed by 20th Century Fox against Warner Bros, claiming they and they alone have the rights to make a film based on WATCHMEN. Umm... wouldn't it have been a good idea to let WB know this before they shot the damn movie?

It's a long, complicated claim (read the details here!), but I can't help but wonder how this went so far without Fox realizing it. I don't know what exactly they want, but it reads like they're trying to stop any further movement of the movie. Scope this:

"...restrain (Warner Bros. Pictures) from taking actions that violate Fox's copyrights and which stand to forever impair Fox's rights to control the distribution and development of this unique work."

I hope something can be worked out because I'm really psyched to see Zack Snyder's version of this universe, especially after seeing how awesome the publicity stills have been so far. Thoughts?

Pics of 5 of the main characters from the film. Damn, they did a good job!

Silk Spectre looks terrible, but the rest are just about dead on. AMAZING job.

The Nite Owl suit is a little too "Batman Begins"-esque. And isn't Silk Spectre's skirt suppose to be a bit longer?

Nice job on the rest, however.

Ozymandias makes me laugh. It is so plain that the actor is really a pencil-neck underneath his heavily-muscled costume. All superhero movies do this, but they pushed it a bit too far this time. Reminds me of George Michael and his muscle suit.

I especially like how Comedian looks, and Rorschach is next to impossible to screw up, so naturally he looks good.

The only way I can tell Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Javier Bardem apart is that one's in TV and the other does movies. I just can't support any film that's going to muddy those waters.

Them and Robert Downey Jr. as brothers in a movie with Daniel Day-Lewis and Christian Bale as father and son would be...interesting.

May I suggest that Comedian also heavily resembles 80's horror movie TV host Commander USA:

I don't really know a thing about this comic, but those pics look pretty sweet to me. I trust Snyder to make a kick-ass flick, after DotD and 300, so I'll be there to check this one out too.

No way to tell yet, but I really hope his "blots" are in constant motion.

Well, a mediocre FROM HELL movie didn't take anything away from how amazing the graphic novel was, so even if this blows, it won't change WATCHMEN for me. The original material will always be superior no matter how good this movie is -- the story takes advantages of all kinds of storytelling techniques native to the comics medium that can't be translated into film. I'm curious to see this, but "curious" is about all I can muster.
