Re: Zack Snyder talks Watchmen
This may be Malin Akerman career-starting or career-ending flick. Word is she's not that great. I certainly didn't buy her talking scenes in the trailer or clips. Hopefully, she's not that bad. Snyder maybe should have chosen Kate Winslet instead.

My guess is it wasn't a choice between the two. I'm betting Winslet was never an option. But Jude Law as Veidt and Winslet as Silk Spectre would have been great.

From the other clips, it seems like Patrick Wilson and Jackie Haley nailed down there roles. When I read the book I remember liking the chemistry between Rorshach and Night Owl, more than the chemistry between Silk Spectre and Night Owl.

Re: Zack Snyder talks Watchmen
Watchmen was marketed as a superhero movie just like The Dark Knight. I don't think The Dark Knight is a typical superhero movie - it's like The Departed with Batman - that's what's so great about the film.
The only reason that WATCHMEN wouldn't make tons of money is if it sucks.

They don't even compare. I think V for Vendetta is a better barometer of how well it will do.

Re: Zack Snyder talks Watchmen
Uh...pretty sure more people know who Batman is than the Watchmen. And Batman already had a fairly successful first movie under their belt, not to mention the death of Heath Ledger and the raves about his performance.

V for Vendetta or even 300 didn't have such a worldwide massive cult-following as Watchmen does. In turn, Watchmen isn't even that unknown. It's just unknown to non-comic book fans. I bet most non-comic book fans didn't even know much about Blade, Daredevil, Ghost Rider, Avengers (until they find out who the members are), or Justice League (until they find out who the members are).
I don't know how it is in the rest of the states, but in NYC for the past 12 months, I've seen tons of people reading Watchmen on the bus/subway. And it's the only time i've ever observed that someone consistently stops to look at the Watchmen movie posters - and not just a walk by - actually stopping and staring for quite a while (only men though).
You are right, it's not as known as Batman, but it will do just as well as 300 and V for Vendetta....my final guess is that the movie is going to average around 2 and a half to 3 stars (slightly less than Iron Man), but that's just how it was for V for Vendetta and 300.

I'm going to avoid making predictions about box office (after all you're looking at the guy who didn't think Dark Knight would make much more than $150 Million) or even on passing judgement about the movie. Let's just say I'm concerned - very concerned - after watching those clips that feature conversations between the actors.
And we KNOW some of the actors here are quality talents, so if their scenes don't "work" that falls on the director, not the talent. Especially if the performers are "flat" across the board, which is what the clips (we've seen so far) look like. I'm hoping that the studio just released some bad examples, or moments that don't "play" well outside the context of their entire scenes.

Re: Zack Snyder talks Watchmen
The only really flat clip is the fire rescue. That one just seems awkward and as if they were showing the filming of a scene in a "making-of". The other clip with The Comedian jumping out off of the owl ship seems just funny. But i'm assuming that, in previous scenes, it's clear to the audience he is bad-ass and scary, so maybe it will feel different.
The sound/background music (lacking?) may be a throw-off as well. Were all the scenes considered final, final scenes?
And then there are people that complain about Nixon? I can't believe it's that bad. I can't take any critics seriously when they say that Nixon has been topped in Frost/Nixon. Am I the only one in here that thought that Langella's Nixon wasn't the most amazing thing ever? His Nixon sounded like a spoof of Sean Connery trying to imitate Nixon. It sounded like a spoof even with Anthony Hopkins' Nixon.

People who say Langella's Nixon was spot-on never heard Nixon himself, let alone others' portrayals like Hopkins, Lane Smith, or even Philip Baker Hall.

Make that two:

I'm three chapters away from finishing the graphic novel for the first time and have been actively avoiding watching any of the leaked clips (except for the official trailers/TV spots), but the stuff I've been reading here's a bit dismaying. Oh, well. That's not going to stop me from being there on opening night.
