I love Moore's From Hell. It reads so much better once you skip all that pesky Jack the Ripper stuff.

I read that and it seemed like a review of what's available on the net.

Saw that there is some bickering over a TIME.com reporter's positive review and the "actual" state of the film.

The importance of The Black Freighter section of the book cannot be overstated. For those of us who remember EC Comics, it parallels the storyline that's running in the book. It truly shows Moore's genius.

BTW: Moore's favorite TV show is South Park.

After saying I wouldn't read it till after seeing the movie, I caved in and I'm about half way through it. Interesting stuff, but I don't think it will make a very interesting movie for the general public, unless they make Rorschach act like Ledger's Joker. Not exactly action packed, is it?

BTW, I've been skipping all the text parts. I plan on going back and reading Under the Hood all at once. If the Black Freighter stuff is anything like the parts the kid is reading in the comics, it'll be pretty dreary for me.

Get it while you can, The Sun (UK) has posted a full clip from the movie.

Spoiler:
It's the scene where Nite Owl II Silk Spectre II rescue people from a burning building

I'm trying to avoid all spoilers until I see the movie. I will read the reviews though.

Which means, the only way Moore will actually ever see anything relating to Watchmen is via an inevitable SP parody episode?

I'd love them to do something on Watchmen. Kenny as Rorschach seems like a natural fit. Cartman as the Comedian, Stan as Night Owl with Wendy as Silk Spectre.

Dang, a friend of mine says her boyfriend caught a screening in LA a few days ago and he said the movie sucked shit... I don't know if he's read the graphic novel or not but he thought the movie was a mess... I'm going to just assume he was expecting an action fest and didn't get it... I sure hope so anyhow...

The clips that came out this week (the ones posted above) made the acting look pretty third-rate, in my opinion. I'm still planning on seeing the movie, but I'm less excited now than I was at this time last week.

Same here. I'm still hyped to see it but those clips weren't very inspiring. The performances seem off.

Re: Zack Snyder talks Watchmen

It's a film based on a comic book (that's a pretty boring read IMO) directed by Z(H)ack Snyder with a bunch of no-name actors. What were you guys expecting here?

Don't get me wrong, I'm still probably gonna see this, I just know what my expectations are.

Patrick Wilson and Jackie Earle Haley are no name actors? That's interesting.

Apparently there will be 3 different cuts to the movie, with the final one having the Black Freighter and being 3hrs 25mins long. I guess I won't be buying the seperate Blu-Ray release of Black-Freighter/Under the Hood after the all.

Who?

You could've at least used Billy Crudup as an example, I think he's the most well known. But these guys are no names in the same sense Gerard Butler and Dominic West were no names for 300.

I'm avoiding all the clips and will just wait for the movie.

Less than impressed with the clips, but I'll still give it a go. Hell, just seeing Silk Spectre II in her outfit is worth the price of admission.

Anyone else think this thing is too esoteric for the masses? I'm guessing $30+m opening and a final gross of around $130m tops. I don't see this doing 300 numbers despite what WB is obviously hoping for.

Personally, i think enough casual people are interested based on the production design, subject, and promotional material. They might not come away from it particularly floored, but I think there's enough hype for a sizable opening. I think closer to $45-50 million.

I don't think Warner Bros. is expecting 300 type numbers ($450 mil)
