It seems that the segment Johnny Depp was to be cast in will be saved for a later date--I enjoyed "Hell and Back" tremendously and was looking forward to seeing it adapted on the big screen plus Johhny Depp is amazing in just about everything he is in.
Being a fan of the comics, are they adapting the individual tales and presenting them individually in a single movie or are they going to mix up the storylines of the books? Anyone know?

Its absolutely amazing how similar those scenes look exactly like the graphic novels. It looks like the movie is gonna be a note for note duplicate of the graphic novels. Since this movie has already been storyboarded and previsualized by these graphic novels I can't see how Robert Rodriguez could muck this one up. Its all there on the pages. The hard boiled attitude, look, atmosphere, characters, story; everything. As long as the CG, the performances, and the editing is good its gonna be awesome. I didn't like the music in the trailer though. It just didn't "fit" for me. Too 80's.
I'm not a big fan of comics or even graphic novels but I do make an exception for Frank Miller's work. Been a fan of Sin City in particular for many years. I'm glad someone finally decided to make a movie out them.
By the way, these graphic novels have been out of print for awhile. I've seen a few copies of "Sin City" and "Big Fat Kill" around but "That Yellow Bastard" (the 3 books this movie is based on) has gotten really hard to find lately. I'm sure Dark Horse comics is rushing to get them out again in time for the movie's release if not sooner.

Wow!
I did not know much about this movie or anything about the graphic novels this movie is based, but wow, this movie looks to be very promising with that incredible cast of Clive Owen, Bruce Willis, Benicio Del Toro, Elijah Wood, Jessica Alba,
and many other recognizable names. I hope this turns out to be an entertaining movie. From the trailer I like the b&w look of the film, and I'm still getting over that cast.

Yeah, he deserves a snide comment like that after the movies he's been making. I like Rodriguez's spirit but poor execution.
Tarantino adapting the script and then having David Fincher, Ridley Scott, Luc Besson, or Tarantino himself directing would have been ideal for me.

dude.. he is using the comic books AS a storyboards and the script. If there is a reason why it fails, it's because translating this to film may not work as a direct translation.

but.. but.. he doesn't have to write anything. It's all there infront of him. There was an interview with one of the actors who said that the interpretation is so literal that if there's a word balloon in the comic, they say that line. It's word for word. So whatever is on the page is on the screen.
and since every Sin City thread needs someone posting their poster

The fact that Rodriguez is apparently doing a faithful adaptation is what gives me hope that it will be better than his previous works, at least in terms of the story/script.
I don't question his directing skills. I question his writing skills, but in this case with this movie, my fear is subdued.

So is the whole movie based on "That Yellow Bastard" or a couple of other books?

From what i've read, it's Sin City, That Yellow Bastard, and The Big Fat Kill.

If a movie can actually look TOO good then this is it. It's amazing how perfect it looks & I could watch Jessica Alba dance like that for 2 hours straight.
This & Batman are as psyched as I've ever been for a movie. I have original art from Sin City, a sketch from Frank Miller of Marv, I've met Miller several times, Sin City is one of my favorite comics/stories ever.

Also, I believe a story from "Booze, Broads, and Bullets" (I wish that was the title of the movie
) is also included in the movie as well.I haven't been to a comic book store in awhile so thanks for the correction everyone. I'm glad they're available again.
I wish they would adapt "The Dark Knight Returns". But maybe its too dark and violent and the Batman name would attract too many kids.

The Rosario Dawson post I think may be the coolest movie poster I've ever seen.
The Willis one is great too.
