I've been hearing for months from Robert Rodriguez how this is a literal adaptation of the comic books, visually and plotwise, but I did not expect that. It is truly like you're looking at panels of Miller's Sin City stories, which is truly a good thing. I had my reservations about how they would do That Yellow Bastard, but that certainly put to rest my concerns.

I'm not sure about this. I LOVE the comics and revere Frank Miller, for the most part (Robocop 2 and 3, ugh). Things are looking up for this. I don't see most of these actors as these characters, but we'll see. Also, Rodriguez has yet to make a truly great film. He has made a few entertaining ones and a few real stinkers, but I hold out hope. The images mostly look good, I love that they are taking the Black and white and splashes of color look. I think Mickey Rourke as Marv is great and am intrigued by Clive Owen as Dwight. Rosario Dawson looks pretty good as Gail, Jessica Alba is not what I think of as Nancy, but she does look good. I would have preferred someone like Chiaki Kurayama as Miho. Anyway, I am hopefully optimistic that this will turn out well. By the way, I am not sure about combining the original Sin City, A Dame to Kill For and That Yellow Bastard, but I hope it works as those are my favorites from the series.

jrsl76, you can't blame the Robocop sequels on Miller. His scripts were considered unfilmable and were altered drastically from what he intended. I believe Dark Horse had a comic out that adapted Miller's script for Robocop 2 directly. Maybe someone can confirm?
As for Alba I find it amusing to look in IMDB at the number of threads bitching and moaning about how she wont be nude in this film and how it will hurt the movie because her character is nude plenty in the comic. Well, Alba may not be nude in the film but her body double is so that's settled. Yeah, I wouldn't mind seeing Alba naked but she looks plenty hot clothed so I can't complain.

This looks awesome. I have faith in Rodriguez thoguh, his problem is that he never takes his time with his films.
But this time around, he's got a big budget, and is taking his time.
Also, is Tarantino still directing a segment? Cause, color me happier if cause I'm sure he would guide Rodriguez in a good direction.

Tarantino is stll directing a segment, Rodriguez has certainly redeemed himself in my eyes so far after the crap that was Spy Kids 3 and Once Upon a Time in Mexico with this and his music contributions to Kill Bill Vol.2.

Ugh, rodriguez music contributions to kill bill vol 2 were awful. We haven't seen the final project so I wouldn't say he redeemed himself just yet.
And color me confused, but the last time the two really worked together sharing directing roles didn't it churn out Four Rooms?
uke:
still happy to see the images, lets just see if this isn't a rush job like he did with Once upon a time... cause that was awful.

a just came across a Bittorrent link for the Sin City Teaser.
http://66.90.75.92/suprnova//torrent...ty.mp4.torrent
it won't download for some reason though. i get some weird error message. can someone else try and let me know if it works?
btw, if those screens are any indication, this movie is gonna be fuckin ridiculous.

Yes!!! I haven't been this excited since the release of Pulp Fiction and SW Episode I. I wish Tarantino was directing instead of Rodriguez but its graphic novel roots may also suit his style and since Frank Miller is "co-directing" hopefully it will be as good as the former and not the latter. But truth be told Sin City suits Tarantino more (esp. after Kill Bill) and I always hoped if there was a movie version he would be the one to direct it. Either him or someone with a strong visual sense like Ridley Scott. Anyways, so far the screen shots look incredible and "the look" of this film may be enough to carry it.

Obviously I ruffled a few feathers with this. If you'll look though I said for the most part I revere him. He is one of my favorite comics writers, or writers for that matter. I will watch or read pretty much anything to do with him, but not everything he has done is gold. That's all I am saying. Sin City and The Dark Knight Returns are tops for me. 300, Daredevil, and some of the others are great, but come on, he did write Batman/Spawn and that is not good at all. I will admit however that I probably haven't given the ROBOCOPs a fair shake as I based my judgement on final product as opposed to script. I should have thought more before condemning him for them though as I do know scripts can sometimes take a beating on the way to the screen.
In response to IanH, I wondered if "The Big, Fat Kill" was one of the books adapted, but the characters of Ava and Manute appear in the movie, and if I remember weren't they both only in "A Dame to Kill For"? It has been a few years since I read all of the series and I do remember Manute popping up in another series, but did Ava?

Manute definately appears and figures heavily in "Big Fat Kill". Ava does not appear in "Big Fat Kill". Perhaps Ava appears briefly in the movie to setup Dwight's back story? Anyways those are the 3 books mentioned in every website I've seen that discusses the movie.

Good lookin. I really like all of RR's stuff, so I doubt this will be any different for me. He really has captured the look of the comic down to the last detail.
