Rarely does a trailer knock the wind out of me and say to me "you don't deserve to see this film, it looks that good".
Then I remember that Once Upon A Time In Mexico had The Best Trailer Ever - with "Pistolero!" blaring loudly, and it all lookin' so fantastifying. Then... I saw the film, which while good, was not anywhere in Desperado's ballpark.
So, will Rodriguez find a way to mess this up? Sad to say... probably.
In the meantime...
Best.
Trailer.
Ever.

Also, the music for the trailer kicks all kinds of ass, did Rodgriguez write/play the music?

For some reason I can't get Dick Tracy out of my head.
But the trailer was great!

Sesse, yeah, they are coming out with the lite color on the poster versions. What you and I have are the older comic con posters. So looks like double dipping will be what we must do when the new posters come out.

, but the Alba poster I have framed is the full-size B & W theatrical release. So it would be tripple dipping for me on the Alba poster. I actually like the B & W version of the Alba poster better.

I have a passing knowledge of the comics, I do recall reading and really like Yellow Bastard, but this trailer (and the previous released footage) are doing absolutely nothing for me. It almost feels as if the style is not suited to be translated so directly.
It reminds me of bad low budget student films (with a little more attention to detail). I'd love to be proven wrong because the cast is fan-freakin-tastic, but I'm not completely sold.

FWIW, I don't think this movie was made for people with just a "passing" knowledge of comics, nor was it made for casual fans of the series.
While I am sure the Sin City fans (myself being one of them) will eat this up, I don't see it doing much beyond that audience. This movie was made for the die hards, and for that I really respect Rodriguez. Also, I thought OUATIM was quite good and entertaining. Not as good as Desperado, but still enjoyable to me.
That being said, OMFG that trailer rocked!!!! April cannot come soon enough for me!

The trailer looks great. I was skeptical that Robert Rodriguez could pull off the look and feel of the graphic novels, but he has. And it appears that the movie will appeal to people who haven't even heard of the comics.

They should be making the Watchmen movie the same way Rodriguez is doing this
Man, I just watched Entertainment Tonight's "On the Set" it just feels WRONG that they're even talking about this movie.

I'm sure Dark Horse comics is rushing to get them out again in time for the movie's release if not sooner.
January:
Vol. 1: The Hard Good-Bye (the original, eponymous book with a new title)
Vol. 2: A Dame to Kill For
February:
Vol. 3: The Big Fat Kill
Vol. 4: That Yellow Bastard
March:
Vol. 5: Family Values
Vol. 6: Booze, Broads, and Bullets
Vol. 7: Hell and Back
They've also gone back to press on six of the seven graphic novels in the old, larger (standard-sized format): Sin City, A Dame to Kill For, That Yellow Bastard, Family Values, BBB, Hell and Back. These should be available now. (All of the Sin City graphic novels have been out of print for quite a while now; with the movie on its way it would appear that Dark Horse Comics has gotten their asses in gear.)

I haven't read the comics, but this looks very, very good. I kind of got a Dark City vibe from it.

One thing I can't help but notice is the lack of nudity. The scenes are almost exactly the same as in the books, but without the nudity. I guess this is the price they pay for having name stars (which is stupid, considering almost every Oscar winner for best actress has appeared bude, very often in the role she's winning for...) but it does make me wonder how much of an edge this film will have, considering how disturbing the books are, espically the first story with Marv. I mean, it's going to be impossible to get it all there without going for an NC-17 rating... but you have to wonder if they'll really push that R rating.

Well, it's not so much that I'm worried about, while it does add a lot to the gritty world (and nothing is stupider than watching a stripper not strip...) the disturbing subject matter is essential to the story...

Well it looks like 2005 will make up for the lackluster year in movies that 2004 was...I was never that big on Alba, but I will admit she looks pretty damn good here, along with this movie.

Then again, she's already achieved fame, so I doubted she would do it.
This is the kind of movie that will make its money in the long run, but not immediately. Like Hellboy, they are making it for the fans and realize that those who like it will most likely love it, and they will dip as many times as necessary on the DVD release. In short, they are selling it to a small amount of people, but people who will bring them profit in the long run.
