This is a cute movie with very nice fluid computer animation, though I still have a problem with fish that have eyelids (a minor nitpick). The story is more than adequate to keep the kids engrossed in it, but I don't think it's as engrossing as it could have been. There are scary spots in the film, but nothing super traumatic for young children.
I was pleasantly surprised that the director, Andrew Stanton, does the voice for Crush, the sea turtle.
The kids will have a nice time, and will laugh where they should. Adults will more than likely marvel at the animation.
I give it 3 stars, or a grade of B.

I really liked the movie. It wasn't quite as hilarious as previous Pixar films but it was interesting and fun. I must say I loved the turtle and thought the scenes with him were some of the funniest of the movie. No screaming kiddies or anything like that made it an enjoyable experience. The animation was top notch, some of the scenes were merky but that was on purpose and accurate.
Even the short prior to the movie was funny but I have one question - no outtakes for this one? Neurotic fish don't flub their lines I guess.

Just got back from seeing it. This has got to be one of the best Pixar movies to date. Up there with Toy Story and Toy Story 2 (but definitely a different kind of movie altogether). It was a much darker movie than I expected. Not too cutesy and "cartoony" as Bug's Life and more mature than Toy Story. It also had a tendency to get quite emotional at times (especially at the beginning). The father/son relationship reminded me a bit of The Lion King. Along with being emotional it was also very funny. Some of the lines in this movie had me rolling. Half the time I couldn't hear the dialogue because people were laughing too loud. For a movie filled with so many characters, almost all of them were likable. The turtles were great and I would've liked to see more of them. Even the blue fish (who I thought would get on my nerves) was good and had a lot of funny moments. The most impressive was the detail. This was CG at it's best. Everything looked just incredible (especially the sharks). If the theater I was in had a better projector and screen I would have been blown away. Loved just about every scene in the movie and will definitely be getting it on DVD.

I took my 5 year old today. Strangely, I loved it and he thought it was boring. Maybe not so strange--all the jokes that I thought were funny were over his head.

Saw it today with my 4 year old, some parts were a little intense for her, but she did okay and overall enjoyed it.
I *loved* it.
One fantastic movie. The script was tight, the visuals were fantastic, and the jokes were funny. I will definitely buy this on DVD.
And yes, it did have a teaser for The Incredibles, due 11-4-04 IIRC.

Great flick, and I hate cartoons typically. But this is a great ride, and will be the hit of the summer. I wouldn't be suprised to see a best picture nod. Ellen Degenerees in a CAREER performance here too, she's a riot from the word go. This should make 400 million, and be with us til Labor Day. Lion King was up against Gump, Pulp Fiction and Shawshank at Oscar time, and barring a lineup like that, it should be able to make some real headway in the Oscar field.

Enjoyed it. Didn't think the story was as magical as the best Pixar movies, but still very, very good. Strangely, I enjoyed the movie best when Dory and Marlin weren't talking -- their action sequences were really good, and I greatly preferred the supporting cast. Some of my favorite characters had very little screen time.
However, the movie looks gorgeous. I can't tell you how beautiful it looks. While I'd be happier if the clown fish looked a bit more realistic (and maybe that's why I was happier when Marlin wasn't talking), everything has a level of detail and lushness I've not seen in any movie short of IMAX. This movie alone is a great reason to own a progressive scan DVD player and big screen HD television.
Also, stay for the credits. I can't say the end sequence was a big payoff, but there's definately some stuff you'll miss if you don't stay in your seat -- including a cool cameo. If you're looking for outtakes, you're too early, Pixar usually releases those a few months into the release for repeat business.
