Re: Star Trek Films in 4K

Not in a huge rush but I’ll buy the TNG movies eventually. I enjoy them all. Star Trek: Generations has always been a favorite of mine even though I know a lot of people don’t like it.

Not sure if this is the real TNG 4K set graphic. But TOS did something similar.

I'd also be interested in a regular 4K release of Strange New Worlds. I haven't been buying most Trek since it's on streaming but SNW is a step above and worth having on disc.

Re: Star Trek Films in 4K

If the singles are as cheap as the TOS movies (I kept seeing them at $18 a piece), it'll be cheaper to do it that way instead of the box.

I ordered the Next Gen box via Bullmoose.com, came out to around $20 a flick.

That's a better price that I got. Do you know of a good website that can show price comparisons of physical media so I can get the lowest price? I know there's still DVD Price Search--but it's become such a mess. Is there a better one?

No, I've stopped worrying over pennies to be honest. I just have a my own level at which I'll buy something and then watch for that.

I can only suggest focusing on one or two titles at a time and just check Amazon, Best Buy, Target etc to get a range.

Re: Star Trek Films in 4K

Pre-ordered the single edition of Star Trek: Generations. It was $21.99 on Amazon and I had a gift card balance which I was able to apply towards it.

I think I’ve had almost every version of the film on the major formats: VHS (widescreen even!), DVD, Blu-ray and soon 4K. Like I’ve said it’s a personal favorite of mine even though I know it isn’t the most well liked.

So far I only have the box set of The Motion Picture and The Wrath of Khan on 4K. I’ll upgrade the rest eventually.

Re: Star Trek Films in 4K

The TNG 4K set is currently $90.99 at Amazon. I paid $82 for the 6 film TOS set. Yeah I'm going to wait awhile for a big price drop.

Amazon Amazon

The TNG box set dropped to $77.99

That runs out $19.50 per movie. Still feels a little expensive.

I'll definitely get TNG if it ever hits $60.

Re: Star Trek Films in 4K

Yeah around $60 something would be the sweet spot for me. I can wait.

Re: Star Trek Films in 4K

All of Paramount's big franchise box sets (Mission Impossible, Godfather, Jack Ryan, Indiana Jones, Star Trek I-VI) have had price drops months after release, and are usually are even cheaper at Black Friday/Christmas time. I would wait till the end of the year for the best prices on this.

Amazon Amazon

The 4 movie TNG 4K box set has now dropped to $69.99

That still runs about $17 per movie. Still feels pricey. I like the movies, but they definitely aren't as good as the TOS movies.

Re: Star Trek Films in 4K

My set just arrived. I pre-ordered it last month from a site called Movies Unlimited, which is owned by Deep Discount. They had an additional 20% off coupon at that time that brought the set total to about $58 shipped.

I just bookmarked that site for future reference.

Re: Star Trek Films in 4K

I'm going to hold out until it drops to $59.99 or less. TOS set did have a pretty big price plummet at one point.

I grabbed the 4 TNG movies as a set off iTunes last night for $19.99.

Re: Star Trek Films in 4K

Yeah I actually have the entire 10 movie series on iTunes. I bought them a few years ago for $30 and only the first 4 movies were in 4K, then later 5 and 6 upgraded to 4K. Now the TNG movies upgraded to 4K.

So yeah I technically already have all the movies in 4K, but I still want to support the physical media release, so I will eventually get the TNG set at some point when it's more affordable.

Re: Star Trek Films in 4K

I jumped on the Target deal when it was 20% off plus the 5% I get from using the Redcard. I never owned any of the original 10 Trek flicks on blu (just two different sets on DVD) . It was delivered while I'm in NY this week so I've got this and some eBay purchases waiting for me at home (the neighbors will secure them for us).

Re: Star Trek Films in 4K

The TNG set is now down to $67.99. Still waiting until it hits at least $60 before I consider it. As I said, I have the 4K digitals on iTunes, so it's not like I'm in any dire rush to have these.

Re: Star Trek Films in 4K

I have the TNG blu-ray set (the black slipcase with the lenticular badge) and it's good enough. Only one I'd really consider wanting in 4K is First Contact.
