Maybe it needed extra QA to make sure it wasn’t yet ANOTHER Kino 4K with some issue.

The delay isn’t on Kino Lorber. The 4K scan for Eternal Sunshine had been finished for ages, but it took an extremely long time to get either a director or cinematographer (as required by guild agreements or something like that) to oversee the color grade.

Assuming the 5.1 will be lossless too? Strange to specify it for the 2.0 but not the 5.1.

Blue Underground just tweeted that their first two Jess Franco titles will be hitting Ultra HD Blu-ray later this year.

I have a lot of Jess Franco, but 4K is a bit too much for his stuff.

Yeah, I have a complete Blue Underground UHD collection now, but Franco would lead me to be a bit choosier for sure.

Let me know when they do a Dave Franco set.

Very nice, my favorite horror franchise as a kid. Hopefully they'll get the sequels in the pipeline too.

Also saw the 8 Movie Collection for 12.99 on Apple this morning. Not a bad price for those of you who play the 4K digital upgrade game. I believe the first four films have had 4K scan done.

I (like many, many others) saw this F13 coming. I really wanted to hold off on that shout set, but I caved because I’m weak and stupid. I’m glad it’s coming out in UHD and I’ll pick it up, but I’m going to seriously consider buying remastered in 4k BD’s from now on.

I totally understand. I can see myself picking up some relative obscurities that've been remastered in 4K -- I can't see Last of the Dogmen or Auntie Lee's Meat Pies getting the Ultra HD Blu-ray treatment, despite having 4K scans/masters ready to go -- but if there's any real marquee draw...nah.

FWIW, only the first four Friday the 13th films were remastered in 4K, so at least there won't be a desperate rush to reissue everything else.

It slipped past that date a bit, but I have the disc in my hands now and have written (what I think, anyway is) an exhaustive review.


There's been a lot of fuss in early reviews about excessive noise reduction and artificial grain, which I personally think is a misdiagnosis, but I compiled a very thorough set of screenshot comparisons (of the 2015 disc, the newly-updated BD, and the UHD disc) to perhaps help you make up your own mind. I'd still recommend it without any reservations.

This is the Japanese release by Bandai Namco Filmworks. Maiden Japan has the latest Blu-ray release in North America (currently out of print). Before Maiden Japan, it was Bandai Visual USA (BD + DVD, HD DVD + DVD). This should be the first anime to be released on Blu-ray, HD DVD, and now 4K UHD.

Cover art for the Friday the 13th 4K release. I have the Scream Factory box set so I’m not sure if I’ll get this or not. Have to see how the transfer turns out.

Yes, Janus announced a 4K restoration a while back. That date is in regards to screenings in NYC.
