Re: UHD release announcements

Funny I was just thinking we might get this from Kino since they’ve been putting out a ton of MGM. Day one.

Apparently Kino Lorber has announced all the UHD titles they have at the moment from MGM. They have another 12 from Paramount and 8 from Universal to go.

Damn, so if that's all the MGM they have, there won't be a To Live and Die in L.A. 4K disc anytime soon now.

There will be! That one’s already been announced.

Re: UHD release announcements

I assume they can still license more from MGM unless someone else is going to do them - perhaps this is the start of a lot from MVD? It’s just been so nice to have so much 4K catalog coming from Kino.

Re: UHD release announcements

Full specs for Mondo Macabro's upcoming UHD / Blu release of Stephen Sayadian's DR CALIGARI (1989)!

Our debut UHD release, the long-awaited 4K restoration of Stephen Sayadian's deranged cult classic DR CALIGARI!

As sexually deranged as it is stylistically unhinged, this psychedelic surrealist neo-noir reworking of the 1920 German expressionist classic features Laura Albert as Mrs Van Houten, a woman whose libido is dangerously out of control. There’s only one place for her: the Caligari Insane Asylum.

Madeleine Reynal plays Dr Caligari, the granddaughter of the original Doctor, whose own experiments in psychosexual therapy have led her to the brink of a radical treatment involving hormonal exchange. Having drugged and imprisoned Mrs Van Houten’s sexually repressed husband, Caligari sets out to extract the brain fluid of an incurably nymphomaniac Mrs Van Houten and inject it into the head of a cannibalistic serial killer (John Durbin) addicted to electroconvulsive therapy. What could possibly go wrong?

With eye-popping set design from Stephen Sayadian (Night Dreams, Café Flesh), a luscious synth score courtesy of Mitchell Froom, not to mention acid-tongued dialogue written by Jerry Stahl (Permanent Midnight), Dr Caligari drops a dirty bomb on Reagan era family values. Mining high art in bad taste, it parodies both mass media and pop culture through a roll call of staged citations and quotations as exquisitely framed as they are sexually charged.

Re: UHD release announcements

Oh, 88 Films, you get me.

You can't beat an Italian zombie movie and here's one of the best, looking yuckier than ever in this sensational 4K UHD presentation. There's been a nasty outbreak of the living dead in Papua New Guinea and it's up to an intrepid reporter (Margit Evelyn Newton), her cameraman (Gaby Renom) and an on-hand squad of commandoes to find out why – and to try and stop it. There are disgusting special effects, some unexpected adversaries (a zombie rat, a zombie child and a zombie granny!) plus head-shots galore: truly, a film with something for everyone. Co-written by Claudio Fragrasso (inspired auteur of Troll 2) and directed by exploitation ace Bruno Mattei (Rats Night of Terror; Violence in a Woman's Prison), 88 Films are proud to present this classic of family entertainment full-blooded shocker in all its gory glory!

It's scientifically proven that this movie gets worse as the resolution gets better.

TCM coming early next year from Dark Sky Films:

I already have the German 4K UHD and that one is stellar. Second Sight is also releasing their own, as well.

Re: UHD release announcements

I’m curious if the Wrath of Man 4K will be barebones like the Blu Ray.

Freaky was fun and I did see it in the theater, but I just have a 4K digital copy and I think that’s good enough for me.

Re: UHD release announcements

Oh man, Kubo in 4k? That'll be gorgeous. Not sure if I need to double-dip but it's tempting.

I didn't compare them but I assume all the features are the same as before and nothing new was added. Everything looks familiar.

Also, no digital copy? That's kinda lame.
