Maybe next April Fool's Day, they'll change them all to the original versions- then the next day they'll have more changes than ever before! Digital is the future!

Re: Star Wars Digital Movie Collection

The fact that these 6 films are broken up into 2 different content lockers shows you how screwed up things are on that front. You buy it from iTunes and only 5 will port to Vudu. How confusing is that to the average customer ?

figured judging by the comments that most here think digital copies of these 6 movies for almost $100 is BS.

Yup, FOX owns distribution rights for episode IV in perpetuity. The remaining 5 movies they own the rights until 2020.

Unlikely we'll see a Disney re-issue of all the movies for Blu-ray.

Are Fox the ones who struck this deal with Vudu then?

Another release of A New Hope in a new format and I bet Luke's lightsaber is still white/blue/white/green when training in the Falcon.

That's the price I expected for the singles but I was hoping for more of a break on the bundle. I'd like to have these on my console but I guess I'll wait.

Re: Star Wars Digital Movie Collection

This seems really overpriced to me, but I always saw digital copies as either a throw in with physical versions or should be at a discount. Not really surprised they would charge a lot for them though. Also not surprised at most of the conversation being more bitching about the original trilogy

Re: Star Wars Digital Movie Collection

And to think if a blu release came out today with digital copies, I would sell all 6 for $10-15 on here .

I can't believe people would pay these prices for something they really don't have in hand.

And now we get into this debate again as well. Some people really don't WANT to have something in hand.

Re: Star Wars Digital Movie Collection

$120 for all the films on iTunes vs. $90 for the bundle on Vudu?

Buy them on Vudu, they will port to iTunes via DMA, buy A New Hope on its own in iTunes, and you will STILL save $10 even though you had to buy ANH twice!

Or...

You can just purchase A New Hope, Empire, and Return, and save yourself $30 on the bundle!

(Also, itunes, to the best of my knowledge, does not do preorder bundles. So there's a very good chance that when the release actually occurs in Friday, they'll have some sort of discounted pricing.)

Re: Star Wars Digital Movie Collection

Surely they will have OT/PT three-movie bundle options.

I am certainly not buying this and am just curious if deleted scenes are included and what bonus contents are available only in the six-movie bundle.

According to Vudu's Facebook, the $90 Bundle Sale expires on April 9th.

I just can't wrap my head around that price. They gotta know a lot of folks are going to find them some other way.

I'm not promoting anyone do anything illegal, but is anyone actually considering getting this bundle? With all the other options that are out there already on the internet? Is there some advantage that I am not seeing to these releases?

I laughed really hard at that price and I haven't been in the best of moods these past few days. Lost my mother on Saturday and it is killing me inside. I come here to take myself away from the sadness of what is going on and this just seems mindblowingly dumb.

Re: Star Wars Digital Movie Collection

That price is insane given one can get the physical packages for far less for only the movies, and even the full six movie series, with extras, for still less than the digital only. It's also very likely that a new physical bundle that includes the digital copy codes will be available for the holiday buying season.

I use Vudu, and the one plus for me is that all of the movies and TV shows I have in there now (221 and counting) is that my sister, brother, parents, and 2 friends all use my Vudu to watch movies. Until they remove that ability, a lot of people are benefiting from it. It would be nice to have Star Wars on there, but no way in hell will I pay $20+ for each movie. Right now just about all new releases are $14.99. So their pricing for Star Wars makes very little sense to me right now. I don't know of anyone willing to pay that much for no physical content.

I'm guessing that the people who are outraged by this price don't buy their movies digitally but either subscribe to a streaming plan or get their digital copies bundled with physical media. Truth is $20 is the going rate for a new digital release to own. Yes, these are catalog titles that we've all purchased many times before, but the pricing remains the same, plus it's Star Wars.

I like having legal online options and would've seriously considered the bundle at around $60. I get that buying six new releases would probably set me back $120, but I feel that buying in bulk should have a significant discount. Maybe $90 is fair from that perspective, but it's still $90. For the record, I have bought digital movies, but only a few at $20 as I prefer to wait for sales.

But we'll see what the market says. If it is Fox distributing this bundle, we know that they like running sales, more so than Disney. If no one buys, then they'll discount it.

Re: Star Wars Digital Movie Collection

You're right, I never paid attention to new release digital movies, but for instance Interstellar is $20 on Amazon for the HD version to own.

It's still weird to me that a digital copy costs that much when it's largely a "free" portion of Blu-ray releases.

Re: Star Wars Digital Movie Collection

This would be a no-brainer for me if all of the movies would be UV, but having five of them as DMA is annoying to me. I share my account (via Vudu) with my brother and best friend, and it sucks that all three of us would have to buy the bundle to get all of the movies.

Re: Star Wars Digital Movie Collection

One way to trump physical sales even more, would be to release ALL of the bonus material that was on the Blu ray set as part of the digital bundle. And to even more incite us to buy would be to release new bonus content without having to pay anymore. Just keep expanding the digital bonus material. That'd be kind of nice to open up a digital movie and it have new bonus stuff with it.

Re: Star Wars Digital Movie Collection

I imagine digital copies will be bundled with the reissue that will inevitably come with the new film.

The price is actually fair if you consider the digital ownership market. This is why the studios are so vigorously behind the switch to digital markets, there are no returns and no secondary market to undercut their one pricing point.

The digital sell-through market will have much different pricing when the last vestiges of physical media have been eliminated.
