Star Wars Digital Movie Collection

The current Star Wars saga will be available in digital starting April 10th.

Great- now George Lucas can make changes to them any time he feels like it! See a different version of the movies every time!

That early? Before Celebration? There has been rumors for a while and it was expected to be released in the fall.

Be nice if it comes with bonus features such as deleted scenes. Still, HD digital movies are a bit pricey, about $19.99 each.

Re: Star Wars Digital Movie Collection

Yeah, I'd be interested in a digital collection though annoyed by the new versions. I'm probably in unless it really is $20 per movie. I'd expect a discount if I buy the whole set, especially the prequels. :p

We’ve been wondering for a while what the deal is with Hasbro’s Digital Release Commemorative sets, well wonder no more as we can now confirm that the Star Wars saga is coming via digital release through Vudu.com. The url (vudu.com/starwars) is currently inactive, but Walmart is now displaying marketing with the announcement stating an April 10 availability. Click the image above for a closer look.

Just give us the original Original Trilogy in HD finally for fuck's sake.

Right, we'll see if everyone else has it as the official news rolls out. Exclusive rights would cost two buttloads to get, but I guess if Walmart really wanted to make a splash with its service, that'd be the way to do it. Vudu for me is like Flixster in that I only redeem my UV copies there. :p

Put it out on blu already. Fuck this download shit. If they decided to put the OOT out only on download, I'd never get them.

 I know. The thing is it should be such a simple request to fulfill. I want to give them money, but I don't want to pay for what I feel is an inferior product. Like I've said in the past if they wanted to bundle the original version of the Original Trilogy in some mega set I'd even buy that (even if it meant having to buy the shitty prequels).

While I do prefer the originals, but I don't mind the 1997 special editions. It is just the 2004 revisions that I absolutely hate. I will never buy the 2004 versions no matter what.

Right around the time Richard Dawkins becomes a preacher, I think.

The larger picture from the article I linked to finally loaded. Not sure why it says "Available April 10. WATCH IT ON VUDU TODAY." If it's available to watch at the time the sign is intended to be displayed, why would they need to list a date?

Spoilered for size.

I think the 1997 and 2004 editions both have some good and bad things. The worst change though is the 2011 edition with the addition of Vader screaming "nooooooo" at the end of Return of the Jedi when he saves Luke. That's pretty much what set me over the edge to not buying the Blu-ray set.

Off topic a bit but I've always wondered why the deleted scene from Return of the Jedi where Luke is shown constructing his new lightsaber and also is spoken to by Vader via the force was never added in. Of all the pointless shit that Lucas added I always thought that was a cool scene even if it was pretty short.

Re: Star Wars Digital Movie Collection

The original trilogy did get new 4k scans in recent years (most likely for the cancelled 3D conversions) and it will be interesting to see if those new scans are used in any way shape or form. Of course any new scans would most likely reset the film back to the '97 versions and all of the digital edits done for the dvds and bds would have to be reapplied. Would Disney make the effort to recreate the dvd/bd versions or take the time to make all-new, all-different SEs? Probably not. I also can't see them releasing the '97 versions as they were. Most likely they will be the same 2011 versions from the bds, which is a shame only from the perspective that the bd transfers are really sub-par and getting new scans released in any form would at least give fan editors higher quality materials to work with.

Re: Star Wars Digital Movie Collection

The releases pretty much are what they are. I haven't bought the BD sets yet, which is more a matter of price than content, but the content is further reason for me to drag my feet. But I know that if I want to watch the movies on BD, this is the option I have. If someday we get a less-doctored release, I'll be surprised and glad and buy it.

Now I'm just waiting for the official news to say they're available digitally on 4/10, and then people to immediately ask "Are they on Netflix?" :p

 I still don't own them and never will until the OT is released.

I have the old versions but I have been itching to watch the OT lately so I may have to look up the newer remasters/versions/whatever they are.

Star Wars and Empire have had revisions in the last year or two and both look pretty great. Jedi is still on version 1.0. Version 2.0 is in progress, but I don't expect to see it anytime soon though. It's still miles better than the dreck available on the dvds/bds.

I still have the Definitive LD set from'93 but these fan edits are really worth searching for. Just put Harmy in your search.

Vudu has added the movies. Although they're not yet available for purchase.

http://www.vudu.com/movies/#uiPage/102

All of them (except for A New Hope) are Disney Movies Anywhere compatible. It looks like you can buy the movies individually, or in a bundle with all 6.
