I'm not "paranoid" so much as PISSED-OFF that AACS seems to think they should be put on a pedestal, and anything they do should be embraced wholeheartedly, without protest. They're the good guys, while we, the paying consumers are the bad guys.

The pirates are always going to win, while we, the paying consumers lose out to increased DRM and forced inconvenience...

Re: Let's talk about Ultra HD Blu-ray

I think it's possible UHD's encryption doesn't get cracked for a long time. It will be such a small market of potential software customers, there won't be the same incentives for hackers to break it like Blu-ray. Many niche formats aren't decrypted for years simply because there is little interest.

The example that comes to mind is SACD, which took years to crack as a format because few people outside of audiophiles cared.

Re: Let's talk about Ultra HD Blu-ray

I'm guessing it'll be cracked within a few months, only because hackers love a good challenge. And people are at the very least interested in 4k.

OK, thanks.

Does APple, Amazon or Vudu have any streaming 4K movies yet?

Apple: I don't know.
Vudu: http://www.vudu.com/movies/#featured/12434
weird, that link might not work. try this: https://www.watchvudu.com/uhd/ then go to 'What to watch' and then 'See the complete Vudu UHD collection'
Amazon: They do, but I don't know how to link it. I watched Fifth Element in 4K the other day. Some scenes looked great...

Don't have access to your DVD's? Just open the cases. They're inside of them.

Unfortunately, even if Pioneer were so inclined, European power requirements make a 4K plasma completely impossible.

I'd be first in line if there were one, though! I'm still watching movies on a Kuro 151FD.

I know what you mean but at the same time I think you get to chose to be happy with something.

Your DVDs haven't changed since you first bought them, your perception of them being obsolete has.

I always think to myself, if DVDs made me happy when I bought them why can't I still enjoy them now?

Solution: I find myself watching DVDs on a 40" screen, sit back 6 feet and they look just fine and I enjoy them.

I probably have 1/10 of what you have and have the same feeling. As it is I probably watch something from my collection once a month. I usually rent a couple titles each Friday for the weekend. Everything else we watch is stuff we've DVR'd from the week.

Get them out of storage and buy one of these:

http://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-N...words=dvd+case

And if you decide to toss the cases then great, if not, put them back in storage. You'll at least have all of your discs.

So? I have 3 of them. It's a great alternative and you'll still have your collection right there. It's great.

Re: Let's talk about Ultra HD Blu-ray

Is it worth getting a UDH BD player for a 1080p TV/Projector? Would I notice any difference compared to standard BD?

Nope. If you plan on using the player on that projector only, go with a cheaper standard blu ray player.

Re: Let's talk about Ultra HD Blu-ray

So I picked up Ender's Game. One plus - it has Atmos. And I was wondering about the digital copy and how that's handled. It looks like the digital copy is probably excess sheets they printed for the blu ray release since the expiration date is last May. I found that dumb, but not unexpected. So basically this means (at least for now) all digital copies on 4k releases will only give us 1080p.

Heh. 4k bluray already cracked?

http://club.myce.com/f94/martian-fir...lready-340781/

If this is indeed true and not a fake/forgery, then I wonder how soon 4K UHD bluray will be using aacs2.0 advanced mode exclusively.

Re: Let's talk about Ultra HD Blu-ray

Like I said, months, if not less that it was going to be cracked. Yeah, as much complaining about the restrictions of aacs2.0, it won't be used. Not on any large scale basis.

An "analog" rip would be easy to achieve with currently available tools. They didn't release the original video file except in a different codec, which makes me seriously question they "digitally" cracked UHD's encryption. This is mostly some random hacking group wanting some attention.
