Do you prefer it to the theatrical version?

Neither is better than the other.

The two extra F-bombs ruin the surprise/humor of the F-bomb originally present in the theatrical cut. The CGI blood just looks like CGI blood so it doesn't really make the action sequences better and actually adds the ocassional blooper where Wolverine's bloody claws are suddenly pristine in a few scattered shots. The early extended conversation between Mariko and her father about her grandfather's wishes make the latter conversation with Wolverine about the same thing redundant.

However, the snow plow sequence with Yukio is non-CGI bloody fun (I've no idea how they assumed they'd get a PG-13 when they shot that sequence) and Mariko comes across as far more capable in this cut of the movie thanks to an extension to the "Love Hotel" sequence. In the theatrical cut she's almost exclusively a damsel in distress which made me feel that Yukio would have been a far better match for Logan. This small extention actually helps elevate Mariko instead of having her grow a pair during the final act of the movie (as it was in the theatrical cut).

I honestly can't say that one cut is better than the other.

There's a card with text on it at the end of the extended cut, but I didn't catch what it said. Can anyone enlighten me?

I didin't see anything. Was it after the end credits? If so, it's likely the new card most movies carry that say how many jobs and man hours it took to make the feature you just watched. It's basically an anti-piracy disclaimer without actually stating anything about piracy.

As I said, that's a new thing with recent movies.

I've never seen that before. Thanks for posting it. I suppose it's meant to guilt people into not pirating. How quaint.

It sad to watch a giant megabucks blockbuster that's just horrendous and watch the special feature and see how much pride so many people, especially FX artists or stunt guys take in their work when the movie turns out badly. People in the film industry have to eat too.

Man, I didn't see it in that quite a harsh light. I blind bought it, and was pleasantly surprised. I wasn't expecting a full blown X-Men movie, but based on the movie thread, I was expecting a hell of a lot worse. I didn't think it was great, but I sure don't think it was bad at all. Just different really.

Maybe they take pride in it because they delivered a solid flick whether you think it was or not.

Hell, this is the second best X-film after First Class.

Agreed.

If they hadn't bothered with the silly final act and kept the story as grounded as it had been until then, this would have probably edged out First Class for the top spot.

Which is weird, because First Class is only the third best X-film after X2 and the first one... and kind of a distant third, to be honest.

X1 hasn't aged well. X2 is solid though.

Won't really disagree about the first one, but it's still better than the deadly dull First Class.

If we're really being frank, X2 is the only "good" film in this franchise. The others all stink to varying degrees. If it weren't for the appealing cast and characters, most of them would be unwatchable.

I find X2 to be grossly overrated. Sure, it's fun but it was never anything special. And frankly the movie falls appart when they get to the dam. There was a forward momentum to the movie that just grinds to a complete halt when they get to the dam. Which is made worse by the fact that it's supposed to be the climax of the film.

I think it was supposed to be the setup for a movie which never wound up happening.

I thought The Wolverine was solid. But when I hear the FX artists talking about putting so much effort into Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, I do think it's kind of sad their top-notch work in such a terrible film. And they don't even know I exist, much less have any obligation to give to give a shit what I think.

This. Thank you. Bryan Singer is hardly Orson Welles, but the franchise has pretty much suffered whenever he wasn't on it.

"Deadly dull" First Class? I've never enjoyed myself more in an X-film than I did in First Class. I'm hoping Days of Future Past tops it.

First Class > The Wolverine > X2 > X1 and that's it they didn't make any other ones.
