Re: Friday The 13th BR Box Set in the works.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Friday the 13th franchise, and we’ve been hearing rumblings that a brand new 12-film Blu-ray set is soon on the way in celebration.

The first we heard of this came courtesy of Jason Lives star Vincent Guastaferro, who revealed on Facebook last week that he recently recorded a new commentary for the film.

Guastaferro, who played Deputy Rick Cologne in Jason Lives, wrote:

“Just finished doing the running commentary for the new 12 film box set being released later this summer. Did it with Thom Matthews and we piped CJ Graham in remotely.”

Thanks to Slash ‘N Cast for the heads up on those Facebook comments.

Now we didn’t want to jump the gun on reporting anything based solely on those comments, but this week Jason Goes to Hell director Adam Marcus similarly took to Facebook to let fans know that yes, a brand new 12-film Blu-ray set is on the way. Furthermore, he says that the set – for the very first time – will include the Unrated Cut of Jason Goes to Hell on Blu-ray!

Marcus wrote in a comment to a fan on his Facebook page, “This will be the first true unrated Blu-ray!!! With new features and awesomeness! It’s gonna rock!!!”

The complete Friday the 13th franchise had been released in a Blu-ray set years ago, but even that set didn’t include the *unrated* cut of Jason Goes to Hell on Blu-ray disc. That set has also been out of print for quite some time, so it’s needless to say a big deal that we’re getting a whole new set that sounds like it’s going to be loaded with brand new bonus contents.

Nothing has been officially announced at this time, but stay tuned for updates!

I'd be pretty sweet if the original could be released on 4K disc with this set. But that's probably being too optimistic.

Depending what is on it I'll probably buy it. I'd still like uncut versions of the most butchered movies (2,5,7) but I think that's a lost cause at this point.

Jason Goes To Hell unrated would’t be enough for me to double dip on this. The unrated cuts of the others would.

I want to see fresh remasters of all films in the franchise. It's a shame that these boxsets always just recycle old masters for the sequels.

I thought basically anything involving the franchise was held up due to the lawsuit involving Sean S. Cunningham and Victor Miller.

Re: Friday The 13th BR Box Set in the works.

The rumor is that Shout/Scream Factory is releasing the new box set.

I'll be honest, there has to be something really compelling in the new box set for me to buy these movies again. I've got all these films on Blu and the excellent Camp Crystal Lake Memories documentary.

Maybe uncut versions of some of the Paramount Movies might entice me.

Re: Friday The 13th BR Box Set in the works.

I only own the first four and the remake at this point so I’ll buy it if it comes out. I’ve come close to buying the eight film release of the Paramount films since it’s been cheap and I like them most anyways, but I would like to have them all.

uncut versions or bust.

I'm pretty happy with my tin set.

Re: Friday The 13th BR Box Set in the works.

I have the tin, but if fresh new transfers, maybe a true 3D conversion, if that’s at all possible, for 3. I would gladly double dip the chip...

Re: Friday The 13th BR Box Set in the works.

I can’t remember the details but I seem to recall it would be pretty hard doing a 3D conversion for the third film.

Not sure about uncut versions either truthfully. I think at least with The New Blood, which is one of the ones that famously had a lot of cuts its been said that the footage was thrown out.

I remember having a 3D version of Part 3 on DVD, but it was that red and blue glasses 3D.

That’s what the blu came with as well.

There's a bootleg 3D copy out there, but I'll still buy this if they do it legitimately.

I have all of these :

I think I'm good on Friday the 13th content. I have no need for a new set no matter what kind of content is on it.

Re: Friday The 13th BR Box Set in the works.

JGTH and JX are crap, so having those on blu isn't a selling point for me.

I've already bought all of this shit twice already... the first round of DVDs, then the blu-ray set (regular case, not the tin). I don't really have any desire to triple dip on these films in what's probably going to be an over-priced package with minimal new content. An upgrade of the current blu-rays... I might pay twenty bucks, thirty tops if I'm feeling generous, for a new set. It's just not worth it to me these days. The upgrades are so marginal, and I've already invested in these films twice before. I bought screams deluxe boxed set of the Halloween movies, and even at the decent price I paid for it, I already had most of the movies on DVD, anyway, and whatever value-added material came with it (including the PC of VI -- a turd that's impossible to polish) just didn't justify the purchase.

I think I'm done with buying these "complete" boxed sets that have a couple of good movies and a bunch of shitty sequels.

This makes me tempted to sell my tin set now, will probably get enough to cover the cost of the new set since the old one is OOP.

Re: Friday The 13th BR Box Set in the works.

I hate to rebuy these damn movies again but if they are new/better transfers, have uncut versions of the ones that weren't included before, and possibly any 4K versions, I will rebuy. I have probably rewatched these movies more than any others in my collection over the years.

But I have all the same stuff in DJariya's post and I don't want to immediately sell my tin.

Re: Friday The 13th BR Box Set in the works.

The OOP collector's tin set was going for a pretty penny before these rumors of a new set. Surprised Shout was able to pull off the cross-licensing for a new set but it is a big anniversary. My interest will be determined on pricing.

Quick question, has Part 3's commentary ever appeared on any other disc aside from the Crystal Lake/Manhattan box set?

Re: Friday The 13th BR Box Set in the works.

It isn't on the single disc Blu-ray release I have. Fairly certain the box set contained the same discs, maybe with different disc art.

They have deals with Warner and Paramount, so it seems like everything could fall into place without too much trouble. Warner typically won’t license out titles in an ongoing franchise, but the current legal mess prevents that from being an issue.

For me, it’d come down to extras, alternate cuts, and presentations.

Not to my knowledge.

Being as I never got my hands on the OOP tin blu set, and this having a uncut JGTH, along with new special features, yeah .. I am most definitely going to pick this one up and not make the same mistake twice.
