Re: The Avengers - Sept. 25, 2012
Sometimes marketing has nothing to do with it, either people know about the movie and will enjoy it or not.
Avengers has been setup for years and had a huge fan base looking forward to it, the Internet marketed the movie all by itself.
Sure, there were tons of commercials and ads, but word of mouth is more important that any other thing marketing can come up with.
Marketing can make for a huge opening, but then word of mouth and 2nd viewing takes over, that is what makes for mega hits in the box-office.

Some details on the 10-disc set;
Amazon link
Though an official date is still unconfirmed, an interesting tease has shown up Amazon for something called the "Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One - Avengers Assembled" Blu-ray collection. The tentative list of content for the ten-disc set reads as follows:
• Marvel’s The Avengers (Blu-ray 3D and Blu-ray)
• Captain America: The First Avenger (Blu-ray 3D and Blu-ray)
• Thor (Blu-ray 3D and Blu-ray)
• Iron Man 2 (Blu-ray)
• The Incredible Hulk (Blu-ray)
• Iron Man (Blu-ray)
• Bonus Disc - “The Phase One Archives” (Blu-ray)
• Collectible packaging with exclusive memorabilia from the Marvel Cinematic Universe
The listing also includes the below image, which hints that the set might mimic the briefcase that Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury uses to transport the Cosmic Cube. Whatever is under the S.H.I.E.L.D. cloth, though, is said to be revealed on July 15th.

Re: The Avengers - Sept. 25, 2012
Since I only own a barebones Captain America on Blu-Ray, I might be tempted to pick this up, if the price-point is right.

For War Horse, Disney provided the 4-disc combo pack in BD packaging, or the 2-disc combo pack in DVD packaging. There was no 2-disc combo in a BD case. I hope that doesn't become a trend.

Hopefully the 10 disc set doesn't get a lot of extra new stuff added to it that isn't available either on the existing discs or on one of The Avengers releases. I already bought them all and won't be double dipping but don't want to miss out on something because I already bought the pre-existing releases. Wishful thinking I know as it seems that studios tend to not reward their fans who buy things as they come out rather than waiting for a big set to be released.

I am sure there will be some people trying to make a buck that will put the bonus disc on eBay, etc... for unreasonable prices.. but will still be more affordable than a double dip..

I'm so tempted to place an order for the 10-disc set with all of them. I have only bought Hulk, and IM 1 & 2 individually. If the big set has a number of exclusive extras, I may just give in.

Re: The Avengers - Sept. 25, 2012
I thought of pre-ordering it but $153 is a bit excessive for me (and that's not mentionning the $220 retail price). It's something I see getting major discounts down the line, but by then I'll have purchased Avengers alone and my interest will have gone down.

The Avengers had a 7.1 audio theatrical release, so we should get that on the BD. This should quickly become the go-to demo disc.

This is particularly relevant, since you violate it word for word:
