re: Star Wars
Its really simple. Star Trek is controlled by a corporation that sees the monetary value of releasing what people want. Not saying it is an altrusitic motive, or that the motive hasn't caused damage to Trek (budget cuts on each movie, etc), but in the case of Star Wars, the films are controlled by a person who has made his goal to eradicate any vestige of the past, for whatever reason. Money is no longer an issue for Lucas.

Sweet. These new clips just saved me $100.

Now watch that clip that is supposed to be Obi-Wan's new yell. That scene does not have the new CGI added rocks where R2 is hiding from the screen caps. So, whats the deal? |

So while that Jedi clip has Luke saying "Father Please," the Blu Ray might not have that audio. All of the audio is legit. It's going to be hilarious and sad to see Lucas try to explain away these ones. I mean MAYBE I could appreciate the ewoks blinking if the entire series hadn't been subjected to a bullshit checklist of "Let's fuck with scene ______" |

The new Ewok eyes. Not bad, I actually like this change. |

I'd like to point out and this needs to be said for all-time:
While "Star Wars" is more popular and more respected the world over than "Star Trek" (and probably always will be). At least the people behind "Star Trek" release the ORIGINAL editions of their films and programs along with their digitally re-tinkered versions. |
re: Star Wars
Honestly, the initial "No" isn't terrible and does add some emotional weight. The second one is a joke and really makes me believe Lucas gets his kicks from upsetting people. I've said it a few times before, the sad thing is Lucas finally dying will the best thing he's done for fans, as at least then the saga can be milked for even more money with Lucas slowing things down with new tinkering.

re: Star Wars
No thats not true. The early versions had the audio synced, but there are rips on youtube straight from the Blu Ray.
|
re: Star Wars
That's why I said the original poster on youtube. The audio was the first thing to leak from someone, since then people have started posting actual Blu Ray clips.
There is video of the R2 rocks shot on youtube now? |

Never thought I would say this, but come back 1997 Special Editions. All is forgiven.
Really makes me wish he had released the SE's on DVDs back in 97. I'll be sticking with my 2004 DVDs for the foreseeable future. |

Those who have looked at the leaked BR rips have confirmed various color problems carried over from 2004. It's being discussed elsewhere and a huge point of contention. However, I agree that the news about changes is what's spurred much of the internet discussion today. |

re: Star Wars
I'm more interested in the changes to the prequels. I wish those would leak, so we could get a list of those changes.

re: Star Wars
welp, that bluray.com thread has officially become the most unreadable thread in the history of the internet.
I'm over getting upset about these changes anymore. I guess 14+ years has been enough time for me to finally accept that these are no longer the same movies that I grew up with. I guess I'll still pick up the set (and this will be the last time I buy any home video version of Star Wars), but I'll probably just end up watching the Despecialized Edition MKV downloads from now on - and I won't feel bad about it. I've lined Lucas' pockets enough on OT home video product to entitle myself to a digital copy of the unaltered OT. |

But after seeing these changes, I think I can live with that if Lucas had just stopped tinkering after that.

Can't even keep up. Lots of calls to cancel pre-orders. And you know, for the first time I am wondering if this will hit LFL in the pocketbook. We all know Blu-ray doesn't have the penetration of DVD. There's not a lot of Blu-ray double dipping for the casual film fans. Every week we read an article about people not buying Blus as much as they did DVD. Am I off base in thinking that a boycott could be significant? |

You know, somebody else on another site pointed out that Luke's dialogue "Father..please" has been removed to make room for this shit, or at least severly reduced. What the hell. The transformation of the OT is complete. It is no longer about Luke redeeming his father. Sucks.

Is that the exact same "nooo" from RTOS after Palps talks about Padme? In the new ROTJ the 'nooo' seems shorter which sounds better than the long one from ROTS. There was a guy on YT who edited the Endor space battle (no ewkos/Luke-Vader) - I hope someone does that too for the HD. I'm still somewhat losing interest in the BD set - I still don't have a BD player, anyway. I'm thinking I might just get the 2006 dvds to have the OOT and move on - I still have the 2004 set. |

No, a boycott works, it's just no one would do it. I'm glad to see people are canceling their pre-orders. If 60% of the people who planned on buying this and supported a boycott, we almost certainly would have the originals sometime early next year. George Lucas will go where the money is, it's just people can't exericise a little self-control and wait. That or they just don't care. Don't buy the 2006 DVDs. That release is a JOKE, there are alternative methods to getting the OT, much better ones. |
re: Star Wars
As I said earlier, I'm out if this is true ( and all signs are pointing to it being true ). I don't know that a boycott would be enough; there would have to be a boycott and publicized reason as to why. In other words, something that can't be treated as "Well, Blu-Ray is still a niche market." In other words, cancel your pre-order (or don't buy it) and get some kind of concerted effort between websites (like this one and others) to let retailers know exactly why. I don't know how seriously people take Amazon reviews, but there's an example. Other retailers are allowing reviews now as well. Hit Twitter and Facebook, not raving like lunatics about having your "childhood raped," but a simple "I will only buy Star Wars on Blu-Ray when the original, unaltered trilogy is release."

re: Star Wars
Just think that if all the people that are finished with this crap now had been finished with it an iteration or two ago... we might be having a very different experience now.

re: Star Wars
Fuck these changes! I just cancelled my order that I placed back in Feb.
Lucas you ass! |
