6% here, but I have a Walmart literally across the street from my neighborhood so gas is negligible. The new GM has the place running very efficiently; Black Friday went very smoothly there.

re: Star Wars

I'd rather shop locally if need be (mom and pop) or skip taxes and buy on Amazon.
But I digress. Off topic.

(regarding making people buy the whole saga to get the original versions theory)
To be fair, I would buy. I'm not an absolute SE or prequel hater. I just have no need for either of them on Bluray without the originals.

I know this isn't what you mean, but the OT contains some amazing Ralph McQuarrie art. It may not be an artsy film, but it contains beautiful artwork...

If they really wanted to knock our socks off, they could create "extended television versions" with all these cut scenes. Like how Dune and Superman used to show on TV with extra scenes included to pad out the running time to sell more commercials. Not for everyday viewing of course, cause the pacing would be shot to heck, but they would certainly make great selling points.

$15 each is pretty darn good...although i don't think I'll be buying them...unless newly restored anamorphic originals are available.
FranklinShepard posted the link below in the Blu-ray bargains forum...and it's a fantastic read...

I find it totally ridiculous that Lucas keeps saying that it will cost SO much money to restore the original version of the movie. Um...didn't he do that already when he made the crap special edition version ? They looked pretty good to me.

It's not just this set, I see you commenting on it in a lot of threads lately. No big deal, I just wanted to let you know that if you were trying to make it obvious that you don't care about special features and packaging, you've done a more than sufficient job. Sorry about the old man jab, by the way. I guess I was cranky when I wrote that.

Apology accepted and you're right I have been less understanding of that aspect of the hobby as of late. Perhaps either more people have been making a bigger deal of it or I've just been noticing it more.
I don't totally disregard extras I just don't get as excited as many others do. I'll peruse them once and if it's a great documentary I'll see it more than once. I just don't base any buying or upgrade decisions on what extras are included.

Yeah, both sides of the fence here need to realize that there are people who feel the complete opposite way from them, and that both points of view are completely valid.
I like special packaging. SteelBooks look cool and are fun to collect. If a movie comes with a slipcover, I want that slipcover. I love watching special features about movies, and even if I know I'll never watch a certain special feature again, I like knowing that I can watch it if I want to. Some people are naturally a little more OCD as well, meaning that if two movies in a series have a slipcover and are designed a certain way, and then the third movie doesn't have a slipcover and is designed completely different, it bugs us. Although to a lesser extent than some, I am still one of those people. Another thing is, unless it's simple little text-and-picture-only biographies or factoids about the movie, there is absolutely no reason for a studio NOT to carry over all previously-released bonus features, in addition to any new ones. And collectors, or just people with OCD tendencies, are bugged when we can't have everything in one neat little package. Having to keep an old DVD as well as my new Blu-ray because they only carried over some of the special features from the DVD is just plain annoying to me. It's even more annoying when they take the trouble to include some of them, but not all of them. And it's most annoying when commentaries aren't carried over from the DVD to the Blu-ray, because then you can't even listen to the commentary while watching the film in high definition.
None of these things are enough to ruin anyone's year, but they are enough to cause great annoyance and grief for those of us who are completists (is that a word?), and like to collect movies and TV shows for how they look, as well as what the disc contains.
At the same time, I understand that some people like to just own the movie and would rather not pay for bonus DVDs and digital copies and bonus discs of special features and special packaging and the like. That's why I think it's great that studios have started releasing stripped-down versions as well as jam-packed versions of movies, in order to please both audiences.
The thing is though, if they only release the jam-packed versions, you still get what you want, which is the film, even if it is at a slightly higher cost. When studios skimp on something, you still get your film, but I only get part of what I'm after. The jam-packed versions will almost always please everybody, and that's the point I'm trying to make here, I guess.
