Amazon protects us from their own price. If somewhere else gets it cheaper or we change our minds, we can cancel. I see no drawback from just pre-ordering now and deciding a few days before.

Re: Amazon Discounts and Deals Thread #7 (is it #7? I'll pretend it is)

even though I am not a fan of the 3 newer movies, I think that for the $90 I might treat myself to the 'Complete Saga'. It's been a while since I actually saw the Prequels, plus the 3 bonus discs full of all kinds of goodness means it's very tempting and hard to pass up this deal.

I'm also guessing between now and then we'll see further drop in price similar to the 'Alien' set that was released and wouldn't be surprised to see it closer to the $75 mark come release day.

Besides since they don't charge you until it ships, what harm is there? If it turns up cheaper elsewhere - cancel!

This is the one change Kershner asked for when the DVDs came about and it was granted; Luke's fall is once again silent.

re: Star Wars

Oddly enough, the Krayt dragon scream is one of those things that always did bother me pre-SE. It always sounded artificial, and for years I never really made the connection that it was Ben Kenobi making the sound. Not really sure how that could be fixed without showing a live krayt dragon earlier in the movie making that sound.

As for Luke's scream, when I was a kid I had a paperback novel sized compilation of the Marvel comics adaptation, and when Luke jumps off the gantry, it showed him screaming "Nooooooo!" as he fell. The SE simply used a re-purposed Emperor's scream from ROTJ and that was just insulting. I mean, it's not like Hamill makes a living doing voiceover work or anything

But the scene really does play better silent. Luke's calm acceptance of his fate shows how much he's grown.

re: Star Wars

good price for those who want the complete saga
I defended the prequel releases when they came out but I just can't see myself watching these again (and if I need to dvd will suffice)

really only want episodes IV and V .... may spring for the OT package unless I wait for individual releases.

re: Star Wars

Did I read correct that along with the Saga Set, they are releasing each trilogy seperately? Gotta love Lucas for talking in every interview since 2005 that it is one big story that is supposed to be seen in the order of 1-6, yet he is still selling them as trilogies!!!

This is good because that tells me that Lucas realizes there are section of fans that hate the PT and willl only buy the OT. That also tells me he will probably double dip sometime in the future and release the OOT for BluRay.

I will wait for the BluRay OOT disks.

Although it probably wont be til 2025......

But I'd never watch the newer films in a million years. I can just Netflix the bonus discs. I'm not one of the die-hards.

Keep in mind that Fox now produces "Rental Versions" of it's discs for Netflix that do not contain any extra material whatsoever.

Doesn't Netflix usually carry bonus discs? I figured with something as massively popular as the Star Wars franchise they would.

re: Star Wars

I already pre-ordered mine. I've never been that bothered with the changes made for the special editions and I never even saw the OOT in widescreen until the limited edition sets were release in 2006. Until then all I had were the special editions on VHS and TV recordings of the originals.

What I am annoyed with is Lucas' inability to focus on multiple projects at once (seriously, we couldn't have Indiana Jones 4 in the 90s because Lucas was too busy dicking around with the special editions and prequel trilogy?). I agree wholeheatly with the other posters that Lucas is a dickhead douche for not giving us a decent release of the OOT. Has Lucas ever given a legitimate reason for not releasing the OOT besides "the special editions where how I always wanted the films to look"?

Also, there will be further changes to the OT. On the Forcecast podcast last year, they were interviewing the Skywalker sound guys who were working on updating Ben's Krayt Dragon call for a future release - so either the blu or 3-D version. The new Krayt Dragon call sounded pretty bad...I don't know what was so bad about the original.
I want to order the tin steelbook with slipcovers but I'll also keep the DVD's because the extras on the SD's have a 30 second featurette not on the blu-ray and I'm incensed they are leaving that out

Since i never opened episode 3 I'll probably hold off.

It's not worth the extra $45 besides whatever newer features or footage that will be on the bonus discs will be on youtube weeks before the release date.

Also, buying just the original trilogy sends a message to ol' Georgie.

I'm wondering if someone kidnapped Lucas and replaced him with a clone. This is all very...well, it's not like Lucas.

We get it, you don't care about packaging or about bonus features, old man. Most of us do. Get over it.

I'm sure it has more to do with things like shelf space and low prices.

The die-hards will buy the 6-film set and then a year or two after everything is released the individual trilogies will be the ones Wal-Mart is still carrying because they'll fit in their little spring-loaded shippers/shelves and will retail for $30-40.

Also, people posting on a forum like this would see this line of reasoning as absurd but believe me, there are people who find two low-price purchases with a little space between easier to afford as opposed to one higher-priced purchase, even if the final cost is the same.

A lot of people will buy one trilogy and then buy the other one a little bit later and most of these people either won't ever know about the 3 bonus discs or they simply won't care.

Am I the only one that likes number 3? i thought it was very enjoyable and the climax was pretty awesome action wise and as for the first movie, that fight scene at the end sort of redeems the film for me. 2 is just hard for me to watch but it helps the story propel forward and provides some entertainment value.

No, and even that is not a proper excuse. He looks like an idiot compared to Spielberg who provided both cuts of ET, Coppola who provided both cuts of Apocalypse Now and Ridley Scott who provided 5 versions of Blade Runner. The latter is the most embarrassing example for Lucas as Scott released the theatrical cut which he hated as well as a workprint that was never intended for the public; all versions were in HD.

Lucas could easily do the same, but the man is a petty egomaniac who I believe gets his kicks from spitting in the faces of fans who created his Empire.

About the bonus stuff - still have to keep in mind that there already was one DVD bonus disc for each prequel film - and only one bonus disc for the original trilogy.

The original trilogy box set was first released in September 2004, and the separate original trilogy "limited edition" releases (with the second disc featuring the laserdisc sourced non-anamorphic original versions) were in September 2006....

Considering all of that content is in standard definition, they could fit the contents of all four of those DVD bonus discs onto just one BD (and still have room to spare on the disc)....so with two additional extras BDs included in the complete saga set beyond that, I'm sure we will be seeing a lot of new, good stuff (hopefully)....

^ the deleted scenes are what I'm really looking forward in seeing - notably the cut wampa scene from 'Empire' and the sandstorm scene from 'Jedi' (fingers crossed)
