Re: Amazon Discounts and Deals Thread #7 (is it #7? I'll pretend it is)
3 wasn't a bad film at all. It wasn't great, people need to stop holding Star Wars as art films, even the original movies suffer from overracting at times and bad dialogue, 3 was pretty good film and the end fight was pretty emotional. It's so much better than this Transformers crap people enjoy today.

Re: Amazon Discounts and Deals Thread #7 (is it #7? I'll pretend it is)
I'm sorry for veering off topic w/ the deals and such....
I've NEVER have held SW as an art film type...Motorcycle Diaries? Yeah...that's more artsy for sure..but SW sure as hell isn't an "art film" in the sense we know of it.
While A New Hope had it's moments w/ acting...it was pretty damn solid. I'm not even a SW fan but I know a good movie. ESB was pretty damn good, still the acting gets weakish here and there but it still pulls you across. I don't remember RoTJ honestly...I remember moments but not enough to critique the acting. I do remember though that the Ewoks bothered me as did certain other elements like..why is Han not doing much and is..kind of useless to be around here?
RoTS when I saw it in theaters, was like a comedy. The writing was horrid. I hate saying that it was a comedy (acting+script=funny) cuz it's a cliche honestly but....it was like a student film gone wrong. A guy has a big idea and it gets people excited but on the day of...you're doing everything you thought sounded cool but turns out it's way off what you imagined it'd be. People were chuckling throughout the film in my theater, as was I. The fight of DV vs. Luke was emotional...it was close it was calculating. AS vs. Obiwan was this huge fight that lacked any emotional combat or sense of actual danger....just a lot of spectacle (or hell...it wasn't much of that). And again...the acting was at it's worst w/ Anakin once you were on that lave place.
Transformers 1 was decent...not without it's flaws. TF2 was at it's worst...only increasing what was wrong w/ TF1. But that intro to TF2 (and very few other specs but the intro at least for this topic of discussion) was better than the whole that was RoTS. It was concistent, well edited (unlike the other scenes), and sense of weight in it's performance w/ it's mayhem. Anakin vs. Obi wan didn't have that.

re: Star Wars
I can't even bring myself to hope that the extra three discs in the 9 disc set might be the original versions (forcing folks to buy the prequels to get them...)
I've barely even watched the DVD set I bought way back in 2004, much less the VHS and LD copies of the original versions I own. As much as I've loved the story of the Skywalkers since I was a wee lad in the late 70's, time has tempered my enthusiasm.
I'll wait for more info to decide whether or not I should get more excited or not about these.

The entire score was mixed down for those releases to their detriment.

Just Pre-Ordered the complete BD disc set @ Amazon! The $90 price tag wasn't as steep as I thought it would have been given all six films and an additional 3 discs of "extras"! Can't wait!

Well....I hate the PT and love the OT, and was going to order only the OT. But I don't think I want to miss out on the extras on the full set's bonus discs.
I think I'm going with the full set.

He debunks the myth that Revenge of the Sith was a pretty good film.
And while you're there, check out the reviews of the first two. This guy systematically takes them apart, piece by piece, and shows exactly why they're flawed and how they could've been made better. And he compares the prequels to the originals and shows how the originals are better-made films. He does do it in a comic "Buffalo Bill" type persona which I don't find particularly amusing, but the reviews are so good I don't care.
Sorry for going off-topic!

I'm in the minority but I enjoyed the first film the best of the prequels. It was light hearted and silly, Liam Neeson gave the best performance of anyone with Ray Park's brooding Darth Maul coming in a close second. The latter films were supposed to be "dark" but only ended up being just as silly but meant to be taken seriously.

Probably get more responses when talking Star Wars on Blu-ray in the HD Forum thread:

If you haven't seen these films.. I would like to ask you, under what rock have you been hiding?
As for the set. I'm in. but I'm not preordering them.

re: Star Wars
When I was dating I'd run into girls every once in a while that hadn't seen Star Wars. Slowly inched away.
A boy/man that hasn't seen Star Wars... is not a man at all.
My girlfriend of 5 years is more of a Trekkie but still loves the 'Wars <3
Ordered the complete set... the pricing is very very un-Lucas. I remember paying $50 for the OT alone on DVD when it came out (and that was an excellent price).

I'm in for the complete box, but I won't be preordering. I prefer to go into a brick & mortar store at midnight whenever possible for something like this. I don't know why it matters, but it just feels right.
