They'll pony up eventually like they did for Oswald(which they've done nothing with :lol:). Fox was likely asking far too big a price at the time of the merger.

Right, Disney the Walt Disney Treasures collection of Disney Oswald shorts pretty much immediately after getting the rights in 2006:

However, they also used Oswald in the video game Epic Mickey 2 in 2012, so there has been new Oswald content since the acquisition.

Good point. I was thinking new animated shorts and had forgot about that game (even though I own it).

They also have had Oswald waling around the parks and meeting guests. I guess the people that played that the game might recognize him. :lol:

Well, it's not like Disney is making a lot of new animated shorts with old characters anyway. They make like one new Mickey Mouse short every decade.

My three year old kids have started watching those new ones. They're kind of fucked up, so I threw in the DVD's of the Walt Disney Treasures, which they actually like more. Those new ones are ridiculously bad. But it is funny to watch the Disney Treasures after all these years - and even funnier listening to Leonard Maltin's apologies for several of them.

Is there a 4k master of the Prequel trilogy? If so, did they use it for the blu-rays?

The prequels were finished in 2K. Episode 1 was shot on film but all the digital effects were done in 2K, and all the shots but one have digital effects in them. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_W...Menace#Effects

Theoretically, one could go back and rescan the film in 4K and then redo all the effects, but that'd be a massive undertaking.

Episodes 2 and 3 were shot using 2K cameras, so there's no extra resolution to go back and extract from the live action.

And wasn't Episode 2 shot "flat" in 2K? (with the letterbox bars taking up part of the image) I thought I had read that least Episode 3 was shot anamorphically, so there would at least be more vertical resolution.

I can't find any evidence that Episode 3 was shot anamorphically. I found articles stating the Ep3 was shot exclusively with Fujinon’s E Series digital cinema-style lenses, which, from what I can tell, aren't anamorphic:

Also, if you check the making-of, at the 30m56s part you can see screens showing a 16x9 image of what's being shot, with crop lines for the 2.40:1 frame.

AFAIK, Episodes 2 and 3 were done in 1080p, not 2K.

1080p resolution is 1920x1080, 2K resolution is 2048x1080. The difference isn't significant.

Ep2 used the Sony/Panavision HD-900F:

I would actually pick these up. Never a huge fanboy, but certainly enjoyed the movies since seeing the first one in the theater back in 77. I had the LD's for a while and the only DVD's we have are my sons. I forget which version they are.

I know this keeps coming up but it being the 40th' anniversary and during a massive resurgence in popularity due to TFA and R1, I have to think this one might actually turn out to be true this time.

I don't get my hopes up anymore because this type of rumor seems to surface every few years. But as someone said above, this is as perfect a time to release it with the 40th Anniversary and Luke getting top billing in Episode 8 this year?

Part of me thinks it will be released in a massive 9 movie Saga Boxset after Episode 9 in 2020 when Disney finally gets the rights to the movies (except Star Wars 77) from 20th Century Fox.
