re: Star Wars
I just watched the deleted scenes from the OT.
Here are my nitpicks of them:
When Luke finishes constructing his light saber, he turns it on then off. But he doesn't try slicing anything! What if he didn't build it correctly? He puts it in R2 at the point so there is no chance he tested it before actually using it on the skiff. I guess he was a decent engineer fortunately.
In the sandstorm scene, Luke gets into his X-Wing and it looks like he just flings the ladder off the side. Shouldn't there be some way to fold the ladder back up into the ship so it can be used again? Though it's not completely clear what happens to the ladder since it's at the bottom of the screen. I think this scene also proves that R2 must have had his rocket boosters working...how else could he get into the X-Wing? Of course, both these issues are moot, if Luke just uses the force to levitate himself and R2 into the X-Wing.

Luke should have killed a Jawa to test his lightsabre.

Are they ever going to lower the retail prices of the complete saga? Urgh...Always $90-$100 everywhere. And that's the sale price.
Like to see it dip to $50-$60 new. Other sets like Alien and Rocky dipped alot since their releases. Star Wars must still be selling alot.

There will be no price drop. It will go OOP, and that's it. If you're interested in it, buy it now. Otherwise, wait for the 3D set.

I don't own any of the releases myself due to Lucas' constant tinkering with the films but, if the bonus discs aren't a big deal to you I've seen the individual sets (prequel trilogy and original trilogy) on sale for about $35-40 a piece before. Probably about the lowest they'll go anytime soon. Why not just do that?

Used will probably be your best bet. I refused to buy it new and I found it a couple months ago used for $53.

Still about $20 over my price point. I'm starting to think I will never own this set and I can't say it bothers me. Still enjoy the movies and tune in for a few minutes when I see them on FX but never have the desire to pop one in and watch from start to finish.

It was $80 on release week (and subsequent sales)... for six big films on blu-ray that's what we call a deal. If it's too much for you, perhaps you'd be better off sticking to DVD's.

I wouldn't mind owning the prequels, but it's not something I would go out of my way for. Eventually I may just cave in for the original trilogy only. Its a shame though, really wanted the extras, but obviously not at those prices.

re: Star Wars
That's a silly position to have. We buy/love blu rays because of our desire to have films in top notch quality... that being said, everyone will have their limit for all or certain films. And we ALL know that, typically, given a little time, you can get any specific movie or set at or below your set limit.
Nobody said $80 is too much for 6 films on blu ray. In fact, It's a pretty good damn deal. Will I pay $80 for butchered versions of a beloved trilogy and 3 so-so prequels? No way. When this sets gets to be ~50 I'll bit though. That being said, lets say a top notch set of Phantasm gets released... 4 movies... same $80. I would snap it up day 1.
It's all perspective, and personal opinion. Don't be snippy and tell someone to stick to DVDs because they look at things a different way than you.

FIXED. That's what YOU consider a deal. Just because you may have more disposable income for movies most likely does not mean others do and consider that $80 to be way too much for this. For example, I already have my price point at $35 for the Indy collection. My price point for Star Wars was $50 and I stuck to it. Other than Disney/Pixar and Criterion to a lesser extent I refuse to pay top dollar for other releases because I know eventually they'll get down to my price range.

And if it really is a case of having the money available, than movies really shouldn't even be on the radar of someone in that position - I've been there.

Nothing snippy about it, $13 per film is a good deal. And trilogy options were provided for those who don't want certain ones. I'm sure single releases will be out eventually as well.

Same goes for the alien set. I wasn't going to spend $80-$100 when the set first came out since I knew i'll be watching mostly the first 2 movies and the bonus material. But since that dipped to around $30. It was an easy purchase. Just not the case with Star Wars.
However like I mentioned before, I may just buy the original trilogy(price is reasonable), even though it would of been great to own the bonus disc.

But as I mentioned, whatever someone is willing/able to spend is what it's "worth" to that person.
