Re: Predator: Ultimate Hunter Edition -- June 29, 2010

Some good news per HD Digest:

The Blu-ray will be a 2-disc set and will feature 1080p video (an all-new restored transfer), a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 soundtrack, and supplements will include: Feature-Length Audio Commentary by John McTiernan; Text Commentary by Historian Eric Lichtensfeld; "If It Bleeds, We Can Kill It" Making-Of Documentary; "Inside The Predator" Documentary; Special Effects Featurettes; Deleted Scenes and Outtakes; Short Takes; Theatrical Trailers; Photo Galleries; and Predator Profile.

New features include a Sneak Peek at 'Predators' and a "Evolution of the Species: Hunters of Extreme Perfection" Featurette.

I still wanna see screenshots before I get excited. The first release had people endlessly whining about the grain. I'm scared that the "all-new restored transfer" is simply DNRed to hell in order to address said complaints.

What people don't seem to really understand about that movie its about them and the bloody () humans that get in the way. I did like the 2nd one over all.

Sad note is we just watched all 4 of them last week. Not sad we watched them sad to find out they are putting out another copy. I own all vers DVD/Blu I will pass on it.

Since I already own the current Blu-ray release, I'll only consider getting this if the magnitude of the difference between the new and the old transfer is like it was for the new and old releases of Stargate.

And even then, I can wait for the price to drop to $10 or less. I won't be swayed by the extras or a free ticket to Predators.

Re: Predator: Ultimate Hunter Edition -- June 29, 2010

So apparently this release is DNR'd to death

Foreign Impressions

Terrible Translation:
I have reingeschaut grad and the horror begins with the total soft and denoised Fox logo. The image was filtered really violently, so that one film grain really looking with a magnifying glass and has hardly will find. Only in scenes with extremely little movement makes the image clearer. Otherwise you will find some "moving fog patterns" and many dirt particles. In the scene at the beginning, where Schwarzenegger and Carl Weathers meet, looks like the face of Weathers in the smoke like a wax figure. I will once the position of the dirt particles with the DVD compare .... I bet that there is no difference .... I must go further gaze ....
In a first release so little has been written by "digitally remastered", but in the new release is no longer there. Digitally remastered has always said: we have the old crap again driven by the computer and on a 17-inch model's looks great ....
Terrible translation, but it makes it clear there's DNR

I'm almost relieved I can cross this one off my wishlist actually... maybe we'll get a proper 25th anniversary release in a few yrs.

Lame, but I'll wait for some of my own respected sites to review this first. If that's the case, I'll simply buy the current release and keep my 2-disc DVD.

I never understood the whole noise reduction thing but that image is a blatant example of how fucked up it is. Why would anyone okay a transfer like that?
