Digital Bits said its built like the Alien Anthology set. Is that what it seemed like?

I've never checked out the Alien Anthology set so I'm not sure.

It's good to hear that, packaging-wise, this release is of the utmost quality (if it is indeed comparable to the AA set). I still don't know how I feel about the way disc placement is in Fox's book packaging, as I haven't opened my AA set yet.

But I have to remind myself that I already have the barebones theatrical cut and didn't enjoy the film enough to warrant owning the special edition release.

That being said, I know I'll cave if I ever saw this on sale for $15 or less.

+ Video quality is not only as good as original release, but perhaps even a tad better in some areas

- No Commentary

- No SDH subs for Extras

Thats about what I was expecting. Hopefully we will get a commentary via BD-Live
I hadn't realized that there were three cuts of the film

With $6 off instantly at the register, it'll be $23.99 at Costco (11/26-11/28). Probably not worth the Black Friday crowds just to save a buck.

Here's a "review" insomuch as you can call it that (HDDD is a joke but I guess most of you don't need to be told that)

Re: AVATAR Blu-ray - 4/22/10

Got my set today. I like the packaging. Very sturdy. About the same height as the Rocky Horror Picture Show digibook but a tad wider. I have no problems taking the discs in and out pretty quickly. Yes, there's a flap you need to close to slide the disc holder into the case but it's thick and easy to do. I will check out the content in a little bit as I just got it in the mail mere minutes ago.

Just saw the new screenshots in the blu-ray.com review (which actually saw fit to take new ones, unlike the hddn review...)

Holy crap at that second pic! WETA are just ridiculous

Got this from Amazon today. Haven't had a chance to pop it in yet, but the packaging is beautiful. Big thumbs up to FOX, very classy...

Re: AVATAR Blu-ray - 4/22/10

packaging is nice, but be prepared for disc housing complaints. thought it was a simple large digi-book. it's not. oh well, love having the movie finally.

The way the discs are stored is a little strange (though ultimately very secure), but on the whole this is one of the best (if not the single best) packages for an individual film on Blu-Ray.

Re: AVATAR Blu-ray - 4/22/10

On one hand it would be nice if they quit trying to reinvent the wheel when it comes to actual disc storage, but I suppose if it works, it works.

The disc sleeves are stored inside the "pages," and slide out to give you access to the discs.

Re: AVATAR Blu-ray - 4/22/10

Oh ok, cool I guess. You slide the sleeve out, open the flap and just slide it out. That plastic front cover on the sleeve couldn't be seen. That's what I was wondering wtf was keeping it there...

Re: AVATAR Blu-ray - 4/22/10

Got the set last night as well. Watched the first half of the special extended edition and so far it's great. The dialogue feels more natural and the backstory of the characters really adds depth to the movie.

Anyone else having problems playing it on their PS3? Disc 2 won't go to the menu at all and it just takes me to a blank screen. Discs 1 and 3 took a while to load but it played fine after ejecting it a couple of times.

I picked this up during my lunch at Best Buy. PM'd Target's $24.99 price for it and I can't wait to check out the special features tonight. I'm off on Friday so I'll watch the extended edition then.

I think what you're seeing is the reflection of the flap. There is no plastic front cover on the sleeve. What holds it in is a combination of the flap and the "page" that the sleeve slides into. If you make the flap level with the sleeve, there's nothing to keep the disc from coming out. Just keep the flap like the picture shows, the disc is not going anywhere... well, unless you fling the case across the room

Re: AVATAR Blu-ray - 4/22/10

Man, theres an absolutely awesome deleted scene with Stephen Lang's Quaritch. Im shocked that not only did it not make the theatrical cut, but not even the extended cut. Lang just god damn unleashes on Giovanni Ribisi

Re: AVATAR Blu-ray - 4/22/10

For the life of me I will never understand why the more expensive and elaborate a set is, the more the studios feel inclined to store the discs in between pieces of cardboard.
