Re: AVATAR Blu-ray - 4/22/10

^ Thanks, I just happened to see your post on Bluray.com as well, with the same pics. I have a feeling that all copies of Avatar in Canada are in this type of case. And here I was thinking before that this being a 2-disc set means no eco-case, since I thought only one disc eco-cases existed ...

BTW, out of curiosity, is there a coupon inside the case (for the Canadian release) for a discount on the next edition in November?

It's funny that I'm holding out for the ultimate edition because, the older I get, the less I bother to watch special features. I can't tell you how often I've watched Band Of Brothers but I can tell you how often I've watched its special features: never. But whenever I do bother to check out special features these days, I prefer them to be documentaries or (some) audio commentaries. I detest things like WB's Maximum Movie Mode.

Jon Landau said there will be a 2+ hour documentary on the SE, in addition to all the other extras, so it will definitely deliver.

This is the same reason why I decided not to wait for the Ultimate Edition and to get the Earth Day release now (especially given the price).

The special features don't draw me in like they used to, especially since I did not love Avatar in the theater but just think that the movie was decent and the A/V quality makes it one of those must-haves.

I doubt the extra few minutes of finished footage would entice me to buy the Ultimate Edition as well. To compare, I have the DC of Watchmen but never bought the Ultimate Cut, and it doesn't bother me one bit. The more I think about it, the more I could care less about the rough cut, since I'm not enough of an Avatar fan to care about the unfinished footage.

and that's what I'd like from movies that I like. A feature length doc on it's making of. Of course there are some that I do like that are a bit fly on the wall. The 3 hr. Oldboy one is pretty badass if just to see the whole damn process of it.

Nice. I'd definitely give that a look.

I actually really enjoyed this movie and might watch a good documentary about it but I bet the main feature will get far more mileage from me.

Yeah, documentaries are far more interesting and informative as you get to play observer rather than someone tell you how it's done. That's why the massive Hellboy II documentary is one of the few special features I enjoy these days.

My copy from Amazon just arrived. It's a gift for my brother's b'day later one, but this one arrived in the eco case. I guess I got lucky at Target.

My copy from Best Buy today was in a normal case, no eco case for me.

Re: AVATAR Blu-ray - 4/22/10

I am out of town for the next 2 weeks, so when my wife called, I asked her to go to Target and pick up BR Avatar for my birthday next week (she hates it when I tell her what I want for my BD).

She called me from Target and I also asked her to also Pick up Wolverine for $3 off - will be a nice BD next week!

It is very had to read what everyone is say about the PQ of Avatar, I will not be able to see it on BR for another 10 days.

My Amazon copy is an eco case. But I never really cared about that anyway.

My Target case was a regular one as well.

Look, I'm no Avatar fan -- that's why I haven't clicked on this thread and missed out on the trolling until it was reported. If you don't dig the movie, don't annoy the people who do. Movie rants belong in the movie forum.

Just deleted a bunch of posts. Anything else along those lines will be chucked out too.

Re: AVATAR Blu-ray - 4/22/10

No loading issues with my Panny, though it did take a little longer than normal.

Picture quality is pretty damn good. I'm noticing things I missed in the 3D theater presentation. I think I was looking at the "3D-ness" instead of the movie as a whole. This will be a nice experience watching the flick again.

Has this disc had reported loading issues?

Mine took about 2 mins to load on a samsung BD1590 but it looks great. Definitely one of the better PQ anywhere.

Some earlier posts in this thread said a firmware update was needed to play the disc.

Re: AVATAR Blu-ray - 4/22/10

I got the warning message that my player was in need of a FW update. (Sammy BDUP 5000) Unfortunately, Samsung hasn't issued an update for this player in almost a year and a half.(2008) Over at the AVS forum, a couple of guys have contacted Samsung to explain the hold up or provide a time frame on a patch but the nearest guesstimate the samsung rep would give is a few weeks. I've plenty other flicks to watch so, I'll hold tight and try desperately not to chuck this thing(player) out a window.

I wouldn't hold your breath for that one. They pretty much wrote off the UP5000 a while back (which is funny since the 25xx series is essentially it minus the HD DVD 'stuff' since it was going to be the UP5050 before HD DVD died).

I got my copy and will throw it in my Insignia and LG in a bit.

Plays fine on my Oppo BDP-83. And man oh man, best looking title on the format yet.

Re: AVATAR Blu-ray - 4/22/10

I got mine from Best Buy and it had an eco case. I don't really care what the case is like so long as I got a good slip cover. A lot of the slip covers had scrapes and parts where the shiny stuff underneath was showing. They had a ton of them, though.

God this movie looks gorgeous on BD, though.
