I seem to recall Hackers doing well? Or am I just remembering it's cultural impact at the time and going forward?

Wow.

I'm guessing this became a bigger thing on home video and that's what I'm remembering.

I think you may be confusing it with The Matrix, or some other movie that anyone ever actually bothered to watch. Hackers was a tremendous bomb in theaters, and the only "cultural impact" it ever had was people mocking its total misunderstanding of how computers work or what they do.

It's a movie that probably gained popularity due to its constant presence on HBO.

Hackers was a bad movie on many levels. Despite its poor box office, it was at least notable for being a mild breakout for Angelina Jolie.

No, and looking at the year of release (1995) we were still living in a small college town at the time it was released so maybe it was just my local microcosm that thought it was something special.

Weird.

Based on these comments, I tried again, on two browsers on my phone (one of which I’d never used before, so no cookie issues, etc). Still says “enter a valid code”. Guess I’ll try a desktop somewhere when I get the chance. And even then, I’m still not sure I’ll bite because, as mentioned, I’ve got virtually all the titles in both sets on the old IVL discs and I’m just not sure the supplements justify the steep price (even discounted).

Incidentally, I avoid shipping into Canada and taxes/duties by having two American mailing addresses (a USPS postal outlet, and a parcel pick-up place) across the bridge from my old home city, where I visit on occasion. That’s the only reason I’m even considering buying these sets if the code ever works for me.

Shout! Factory rebranded, and now they're Shout! Studios.

I'm not sure if this affected Scream Factory at all or if they're keeping their existing branding.

Have they even done anything recently beyond just releasing previous titles in 4k?

Yeah, they've been putting out a bunch of stuff recently. The Irwin Allen and Shaw Bros. box sets in particular stand out. They've been shipping I think 3 site exclusives on Blu-ray in the past week.

I haven't purchased the 1st Shaw Bros. set from Shout. Still a little too rich for me now and I'm still waiting for the 2nd Arrow set to drop significantly under $100. Probably going to be awhile if I ever get to these.

The nice thing about 3 boxes is that they'll be easily combinable in the next Target sale.

Re: The One and Only Shout! Studios (and Scream Factory!) Blu-ray Thread

I just bought The Blob remake (one of my fave films) on blu in last years Shocktober sale (to replace the signed copy I got from Twilight Time that I long since sold-off on eBay many years ago), but darn...this 4K package with two slipcovers and a poster is crazy tempting to pre-order.

I am not a slipcover nut, so if I order a blu long after it was released and it comes without a slipcover, I can live with that, and if I order a blu/UHD and the limited edition slip is no longer for sale (so sold out by the time I want to order), again, I can live with that, but the boutique labels have gotten wise to us and are now offering up packages with not one, but two(!) slips with alternate artwork or poster images, they do know how to lighten my wallet by tempting me to pre-order, lol!!

Between The Blob and the UHD of Night Of The Comet, I am about to add to my collection of Shout exclusive posters and slipcovers.

Question about the recent 2-disc Creepshow 4K release.

Does the blu ray disc also include the movie or is it just all special features?

Re: The One and Only Shout! Studios (and Scream Factory!) Blu-ray Thread

Woah. This is the one I've been waiting for. Is there any confirmation anywhere of which titles are included? I have to say I kind of wish Arrow were the ones doing this (I don't trust Shout at all), but hopefully it will work out ok.

Edit to add: Here's the list:

HAVE SWORD, WILL TRAVEL
THE HEROIC ONES
VENGEANCE!
THE ANONYMOUS HEROES
THE DEADLY DUO
DUEL OF FISTS
THE DUEL
THE ANGRY GUEST
ALL MEN ARE BROTHERS
THE BLOOD BROTHERS
THE SAVAGE 5
7 MAN ARMY

Vengeance, the Duel and Blood Brothers are amongst my all time favorite Shaw films. The rest are all good as well, although I don't think I ever watched the Angry Guest or 7 Man Army, despite owning copies of both.
