Or Craven. A lot of the old masters are dying off. Course, Bob Clark was killed by a drunk driver 12 years ago.

In Oldboy’s defense, Carpenter looks like he’s had one foot in the grave since the mid-90s.

I can see where he may have gotten confused. I mean the past few years a lot of the big horror directors have passed away. Wes Craven, Tobe Hooper, George Romero.

Carpenter's involvement in the last Halloween was highly publicized. I don't know how anyone could think he was dead.

Maybe he got him confused with Wes Craven, Tobe Hooper, or George Romero.

It's weird. I never saw that movie. Yet I remember it sucking.

I already own the Studiocanal release and am very happy with it. That said, barring Robert De Niro being digitally replaced by Bea Arthur, I can't think of a single reason why I won't buy this. I see buying this as an investment in the future of physical media, and my place in it. Day 1 purchase.

The only thing that would give me caution is Shout Factory hasn't always been known for their pristine transfers. They are more known for their numerous fuck-ups on many releases.

Guess we will see. I have no interest in owning The Deer Hunter but hopefully they do a good job on this one and more titles are on their way.

Also, a lack of a digital code makes me hesitate some.

In this case, at least, it'll undoubtedly be the same master used for the Studiocanal 4K releases in 2018. The concern isn't the master so much as the encode; hopefully it's not the same as Studiocanal's, which I've read is problematic.

If they're doing fresh encodes, I'd love to see domestic releases of the John Carpenter films that Studiocanal released in 4K overseas.

AFAIK, Shout has never re-used an existing video encode. Though some have complained about Shout's own occasionally shoddy encodes.

Well I picked up Very Bad Things this week. Good new is Jeremy Piven and Daniel Stern both do a good job and give fun light hearted interviews on the extras. Bad news is I think the transfer is dated and the critics on the commentary act like elitist snobs picking it part through modern day wokeness. I didn't know what to think about the movie when it first came out and now its one of my favorite comedies.

I hope they’re able to use the Jack Lemmon commentary from the laserdisc that hasn’t made it onto any subsequent rerelease.
And also carryover the features from 2002.

why doesn’t the Amazon link on Blu-ray.com take you to an error page? If wasn’t available for preorder, which Shout! says June, it would just let you sign up to be notified.
