Is there any chance some of these people are color blind like the art director on the Star Trek Animated series, where we got pink Klingons?

On the original, purple-tinted Blu-ray edition of The French Connection, there's a featurette in the bonus features called "Color Timing" where Friedkin describes the process used to give the movie "pastel" colors. The featurette shows before-and-after clips, and Friedkin raves about how amazing the version with glowing faces and purple skin tones is. He says that he absolutely loves it, that it looks better than the original theatrical release ever did, and that it's exactly what he always wanted.

When that Blu-ray was released and people complained about it, Friedkin was very argumentative and insisted that the disc looked great. When the film's own cinematographer contradicted him, Friedkin insulted him in a podcast interview and very nearly called him incompetent.

Only years later did Friedkin change his story. When the later "Filmmaker's Signature Series" Blu-ray was released, that disc had a new video transfer approved by both Friedkin and cinematographer Owen Roizman. The new transfer has normal colors, and looks almost identical to the "Before" clips in the former Color Timing featurette (which of course did not make the transition to the new Blu-ray).

At that time, Friedkin started up with the new story that the old Blu-ray was somebody else's screw-up and never represented what he wanted. This is in direct contradiction to the video featurette that shows him watching the purple-tinted transfer and raving about it.

Shout just announced that Colors (1988 Sean Penn/Robert Duvall movie) will be the 1st Shout Select title of 2017.

No exact date yet or artwork.

COLORS is listed as Feb. 21.
https://www.shoutfactory.com/film/ac...venture/colors

Also coming that month:

BILLY JACK - THE COMPLETE COLLECTION (4 discs) - Feb. 7, 2017
https://www.shoutfactory.com/film/ac...ection-4-films

Also noticed they're releasing the DR. STRANGE TV movie soon, but DVD only unfortunately. Still, good to see it finally getting some attention as it's one of the better Marvel-based TV movies of the era:

I wonder how that compares to the animated movie that was released a few years ago. Given how well that was done, I'm wondering if the new live action movie will be better or worse than that one. We all know many of the animated movies (or TV) end up better than their bigger budget movie counterparts.

Fantastic they are releasing it...but no Blu, only DVD and sounds like a complete oh we have rights, here it is scenario. No subtitles, sounds barebones and everything.

I'll pass...the sad part is if they did subtitles, some restoration and put it in a limited release on Blu-ray (1000 copies which they have done before), I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

DVD Barebones? I'll wait until I see it in some used/closeout shop clearance bin for $5.

re: The One and Only Shout! Studios (and Scream Factory!) Blu-ray Thread

I'll be waiting to get it cheap, too, much as I like it. I mainly just want to revisit it after all these years. Many moons ago I actually had a Betamax tape of a re-run from the early 80's for the longest time, but that's long gone.

Considering the Captain America double-feature TV movie DVD was available at Wal-mart for the longest time at around $5.00, I can see this one following the same pattern. In fact, making Dr. Strange DVD-only is a no-brainer for Shout since they know a lot of stores will stock up on it for cheap, knowing full well people will mistakenly purchase it at ~$5-8 thinking it's the newer film. I've often seen this happen in stores, although it baffles me that people still exist who are so far out of the loop as to think that such discs are the same versions currently playing in theaters.

I haven't seen the more recent animated movie, but I can't imagine it not being at least somewhat better, especially the fantastical element. After all, the live action movie came out in 1978. And on TV.

Hoping they'll put out "FM" since they seem to be doing so many Universal titles. (Many copies of the OOP Anchor Bay DVD have rotted, including the one my friend has. I still have the laserdisc but of course would like something better.)

Guess my laserdisc of Deadtime Stories is worthless now...

I remember a special sales display at Sam Goody years ago for a bunch of Anchor Bay movies...I bought a bunch, but like an idiot, I forgot to buy FM and then it went OOP.

I am in for Virus (the comic mini series it is based on is great), and if folks rave about the PQ of Firestarter when it becomes available for reviewers to pick apart compared to the blu that I bought in the last couple years I would consider it (it would have to have some sweet extras to double dip).

My copy of To Live and Die in LA just arrived today along with the free poster.

Now I can finally retire my MGM special edition DVD. Probably just going to donate it along with a few others to the local library. Might as well get a tax write off.

I'll pick up Deadtime Stories and even though it's not a great film I'll probably pick up the remake of Psycho to complete my collection (too bad Scream Factory didn't stick the TV movie of Bates Motel in with one of their releases).

May get Billy Jack. I have the DVD set, but only the first 2 movies IMO are worth it.
