Especially since U.S. Blu-ray owners will probably have no use for the DVD, as it won't be playable in most unhacked machines.

But presumably if you're importing the Blu-Ray, then you have a region-free Blu-Ray player. Aren't most region-free Blu-Ray players also region-free DVD players?

Yes they are. I meant that the convenience factor of a R2 combo pack will be lost for those of us in America, as you won't really be able to carry the DVD around with you and play it at the houses of those without hacked region-free players. If you can only play the DVD at home, and you also have the Blu-ray, the DVD becomes a paperweight.

Re: The Official Masters of Cinema Blu-ray Thread

That's a good point, but I'm guessing most people who are importing from the UK aren't doing so because it's a combo pack and probably won't care about the DVD anyway.

Speaking strictly for myself, I own probably hundreds of combo packs and have literally never used a single one of the DVD's.

Just to clarify, the steelbook itself will still be available after the free T-shirt promo has ended, although it is still a limited edition.

ii.) The unlimited BD edition (1 x BD) in a standard BD case, with sleeve, with spine number, and a wraparound cardboard sleeve. This will have a blue sticker.

iii.) Limited Edition Dual Format (DVD + BD (2 x DVD + 1 x BD) in a STEELBOOK which is probably going to have a green J-card partial wraparound thing now (instead of a green sticker).

The 48hr offer from Eureka (which ends today) was for the STEELBOOK only (inc t-shirt).

Didn't realize the steelbook was limited. I ordered it.

Just give me the blu-Ray with a slim (non-Eco) plastic case and forget the landfill steel case, DVD and t-shirt and high price tag. If the booklet is good then a slightly thicker case. I'm a movie fan not a marketing materials fan.

If it's a MoC booklet, it'll be better than good. Many of their text inserts are not even booklets so much as monographs - 80 pages and bound in several cases.

Not a problem for me, but might be a problem to the ones who ended up not getting "Make way..." during the Criterion sale and are region locked....

Re: The Official Masters of Cinema Blu-ray Thread

Looks like MoC is releasing Shogun Assassin next, which is a relief since I can save a little money by not having to buy it (the US release is great).

Eureka is releasing Shogun Assassin, not MoC as far as I know.

Zeitgeist owns the rights here in the U.S., so you're probably safe in ordering the MoC.

No Eureka pre-order promotion for both this and Rock Hunter?

Thanks.
