You're aware that Dr. Svet gives 5 stars to almost every disc he reviews, right?

I have a friend that has the 4K version from VUDU (UHD) and says that it does look and sound phenomenal for a Digital HD. I'm sure it's sourced from whatever Criterion has. No special features, though.

My friend said the same thing a while back! Of course that friend was me.

Definitely, since the DVD is missing about six seconds. That's why I've kept my VHS all these years. Maybe now I'll be able to throw it out.

As much as I want an awesome picture upgrade for SotL, I'm more looking forward to having what is hopefully a better sound experience. Of all the DVD's I've ownen of this the movie, only the Criterion DVD sounded right. But given the non-anamorphic disc, it had the worst picture option and very few features. This is hopefully, finally, the everything in one package we should have got long ago.

I saw a used copy of By Brakhage today at the used shop priced at only $4.99. Is it worth getting the old DVD version at that price?

Out of curiosity, is anyone on here a member of Filmstruck? I'm wondering how the video quality is compared to their disc releases?

Bull Durham? (Boulder Ham)

That’s a great clue. But an odd addition to the collection. A lot of big commercial releases this year. Hopefully that is good for them financially.

Only after reading this post did I realize that was supposed to be a ham! Viewing it in my newsletter I thought it looked like some really abstract face mask over a hooded head. (Like... a really bizarre rendering of No Face from SPIRITED AWAY... with whiskers.)

I initially saw the boulder as a giant fist too. The boulder's shadows may have some deliberate form. Or not... I may be falling into a Rorschach trap.

At least the current Bull Durham BD is almost 8 years old with a very unimpressive transfer (according to many reviews).
I can understand Criterion releasing this.

Yeah, it's a pretty terrible doodle.

The end of the ham looks kind of like a fish.

The boulder looks like someone rolled/folded up a cow.

Personally I saw it as a ham right away. It was the boulder that took me a long time. I was thinking "Rock"+ "Ham" wondering what movie would have to do with something like Rockham.

Could be wrong, but Bull Durham definitely seems to fit their recent focus on movies that are though of as classics as well as box office favorites.

I saw a fish too. And I was trying to decipher the “boulder” thinking it was some sort of play on Rorschach from Watchmen.

Wonder if these low new release Criterion prices at WM will be a new trend. Which would be great given the B&N "sale" is pretty much dead for Criterions and the Criterion site sales are very infrequent.
