I find it funny that people have been saying for years that Criterion is going to be releasing Scorsese's After Hours, only for them to actually release Age of Innocence, The Irishman, the Shorts collection, and now Raging Bull. I think that After Hours will get a Warner Archive release and the next Scorsese Criterion release will be Bringing Out the Dead.

I'm super-exited for Summertime and Drive My Car, and I'll probably pick up the others eventually. This is one of the few months in recent memory where every title interests me.

Devil in a Blue Dress is an awesome movie. Jennifer Beals looks amazing in it. I don’t have it on any form of disc, so I’ll probably look for that. I only have Raging Bull on DVD, so that’s a no brainer upgrade.

Eh. That sort of thing happens all the time with Criterion's website. The difference I think is that the announcements were delayed a day and the info was probably sitting there hidden on the site for a day or two. So instead of the info leaking an hour before the announcement, it was 24 hours. And Dawn of the Discs entire existence (as far as I can tell) is based on "announcing" these sorts of leaks. Nobody was tweeting this stuff out in a seemingly "official" capacity before now.

I don’t really get the deal with product announcements being leaked upsetting so many people.

Sometimes Magic The Gathering cards get leaked early and people complain about it affecting hype for the set, the fact is the cards will sell based on how good they are. Same with Blu-ray releases.

There was a big Mike Leigh retrospective announced at Lincoln Center this summer. The following are noted as having restorations and released by Janus, so hopefully a disc is forthcoming. I did not list ones that already have disc releases.

Well, looks like after a great first experience with Unobstructed View (they sent my flash sale order within 2 day), I've been waiting 3 weeks on a single disc The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. I finally wrote them about it and received a reply (within 24 hours, at least), that basically said: "we have your order in our warehouse cue and we'll get to you when we get to you".

I have the other two Man With No Name flicks pre-ordered for their release at the end of the month so who knows...

Kieslowski’s Three Colors has new 4K restorations playing at Lincoln Center in July. I wonder if they will upgrade to a UHD release.

Another update: I ordered Fistful of Dollars and a Few Dollars more (released in May) and figured, well, it took two weeks for them to ship Good, Bad and the Ugly and that was something they had IN stock.
To my surprised, the other two flicks shipped four days after release day. However, as they should have arrived by now, I wrote UV. Three days to reply to tell me they have no tracking number and "letter mail is slow right now".
I should write them back on JULY 6 (yeah, over a month after shipment) if they haven't arrived yet.

But, well, at least they replied.

I might do the math on the next Criterion Sale to bring it back to this thread and see if the cost vs shipping time would be more worthwhile ordering from the US.

As long as the supplements include the laughable alternate ending the producers were forced to use to book the film in mainland China – perhaps with a text or video essay explaining the process for context – I'm in!

While Parts 2 and 3 are definitely not Criterion-worthy, and barely necessary as continuations of (or flashbacks away from) the story of Part 1, as someone who bitches about Eureka, 88 et al when they don't include sequels with 'classic' originals (i.e. UNTOLD STORY, BLACK CAT, LUCKY STARS, BRIDE WITH WHITE HAIR, EROTIC GHOST STORY and so on) – especially when those sequels are less likely to get standalone releases in the west – I should be grateful that Criterion is keeping these together (assuming that's what the hint is all about, of course).

Aside: there's a cool little toy shop in one of the Chinese malls near me that's stocked floor-to-ceiling with tons of high-end Japanese and Hong Kong figurines and model kits (all legit, surprisingly). I'm not into that stuff, but I can certainly appreciate how the artistry and detail has evolved over the years, so I can't help browsing whenever I'm there. They actually have a selection of these heads for collectors presumably to switch out on their 12-inch models, so not only can you get Tony, but also Andy Lau, Simon Yam (often used on PTU-style HK cop dolls), Aaron Kwok and a bunch of other Asian A-listers, as well as countless Hollywood action vets. The realism designed into them these days is uncanny – compared with, say, Tony's U.S. SHANG-CHI toys, which looked ok but nothing like the pic above – but seeing them all severed and resting on little display stands is a wee bit disconcerting. :lol:

I would love Infernal Affairs in 4K. The movie is over 20 years old now, but it’s one of the best cop thrillers I have ever seen.

I didn’t mind 2 as that was a prequel. But yeah I recall 3 was so unnecessary. The one thing I do recall about part 2 is Tony Leung’s then girlfriend is pretty hot. I think they’re married now. She was like some gangster’s wife who Edison Chen (younger Andy Lau) had the hots for.

I have all 3 movies on region 3 DVD still as I also have the special edited together long movie by timeline.

I have Exotica as part of the UK boxed set, but I'm sure the CC is from a brand new restoration, so definitely getting that and Blow Out on 4K disc is a no-brainer.

Holy shit on Exotica. The collection was sorely lacking Canadian films outside of Cronenberg and Maddin.

They should try and release The Sweet Hereafter, Felicia's Journey and The Adjuster as well.

I saw recently that C.R.A.Z.Y. finally got released in the US. via Samuel Goldwyn Films. It doesn't seem like that company releases a lot on physical media. Would be nice if it could be licensed.
