Who is that hack?

Not every Criterion director can be a genius like this guy :

I'm so glad Criterion didn't mess with that Eraserhead cover art. It's iconic to me.

Looks like the corners are a bit damaged, he's off to bluraydotcom to write a strongly worded post about the quality of shipping.

I can't tell if you missed the sarcasm, or are responding to his sarcasm with sarcasm.

I'm surprised he didn't wait for Barnes & Noble's Criterion sale, he could have gotten it cheaper.

I wonder if he saves the "Director Approved" blue labels after he opens them.

That's what I came up with.

While they're at it, it'd be great if they'd release a box set that includes LINE along with GATES OF HEAVEN and VERNON, FLORIDA.

They did the same clue with The Thin Red Line (except the lion was red). Where's the creativity, Criterion?

I know this is not a direct Criterion discussion but is the line of Cohen Film Collection trying to be like the Criterion line? If so, then they really have to do something about their over-sized C that takes up a nice percentage of their covers.

You should check them out, they have some good stuff that would be Criterion worthy by directors like Keaton, Lang, Godard, Buñuel, Chabrol, Resnais, Techine, etc.... and they also do film restoration.

Yah, Cohen's pretty great although the only disc from them I own is Melville's Two Men in Manhattan. I've been eyeing some of the Chabrol releases lately. I agree, the giant 'c' on their artwork is kind of ugly.

I could see them potentially being another Criterion like line if they would be a bit more particular on their transfers and disc content along with having a bit classier cover for their releases.

Does Criterion have the rights for Watership Down? I was browsing on the iTunes movie store and they have it there under the Criterion Collection.

Someone on reddit mentioned that they have the rights to Watership and also The Plague Dogs. I would love to see Watership Down on Criterion, but I don't think I could own The Plague Dogs unless they restore the book's ending to the movie.

hanshotfirst1138 09-15-14 07:36 AM

Would that be the first animation Criterion have ever released?

Akira supplements on the laserdisc (for those interested in what those were)

Supplemental material also includes:

Pencil to Screen: The genesis and execution of Akira
The Akira Archive
Liner notes by David Chute
