re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
I feel exactly the same way. It's actually kind of sad how long they have been using those same clear cases and not utilizing the option to do double sided inserts.

Glad I unloaded the original CC dvd of Sid & Nancy last year for a profit.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
I've never picked up Sid & Nancy on home video before because it was either an inferior release or OOP. So glad to see it on the list.

Light month.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Sid and Nancy...maybe. Heard good things...

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
More opportunities to handle films the major studios don't want to, and yet Criterion decides to revisit a mediocre film like Hopscotch?
|
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
In for Meantime. But thats it. Never seen the Curtiz film. Actually outside of Casablanca and The Adventures of Robin Hood I haven't seen any Curtiz films.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
I'll definitely end up buying Sid and Nancy! Great news. I wasn't expecting that announcement.

As well as some other OOP dvd's that will surely see Blu Ray sooner or later. I sold most for more than I paid for them. Chungking Express went for 70 bucks. Almost 4 times what I paid for it. I don't know what I was thinking holding onto them.

None. Lynch doesn't believe in Director's Cuts or alternate versions of movies. He has had the right of final cut written into all of his contracts from Blue Velvet forward and won't work without it. The theatrical release of the movie is his intended version.
Lynch has described the deleted scenes to Fire Walk With Me as windows into what else was happening around town at the time of the movie. He's OK with people watching them as their own thing, but doesn't want them incorporated into the movie itself. |

FYI, my local Costco has Ghost World in stock for $19.99 this week. Costco is typically very hit-or-miss when it comes to carrying Criterion discs, especially new ones. If you have a membership, this is a great price.

I would love to have a CC Blu-ray version of Rebecca as I still have the DVD and one of the rare instances that I loved the extras. I guess the MGM Blu-rays versions of Rebecca, Notorious and Spellbound are out of print? I still have a sealed CC Blu-ray of The Third Man. |

When it comes to Criterion securing Blu-ray rights, nothing is guaranteed. |

Studio Canal put out its own edition of The Third Man that was notably inferior to the Criterion disc. (See also: The Man Who Fell to Earth.) |

The recent Studio Canal Blu-ray for The Man Who Fell to Earth claims to be from a "Stunning 4k Restoration," but it looks like complete ass compared to the older Criterion Blu-ray. Studio Canal screws up more of its restorations than it gets right. |
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
I agree with Rypro; the 4K restoration of The Third Man is great and it has a decent amount of extras. It's region free and I got it for about 18 bucks on Amazon shipped from the U.K. to New York.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
The Third Man I already replaced with the Studio Canal box set and the Hitchcock titles I recently found used on Blu Ray, so I'm good on those ones. If Chungking Express, Pierrot Le Fou, Army of Shadows and Le Cercle Rouge don't get released again anywhere, I sold the dvd's for enough that it wouldn't be much of a stretch to buy the blu rays on ebay.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
The Hitchcock titles are heavily rumored to be back at Criterion already. There has also been chatter online about Criterion maybe putting out a Wong Kar Wai box at some point, but I'm not sure how much substance there is to that chatter. It may just be wishful thinking.

Some people have purchased Ghost World at Costco for $19.99.

Cute- riffing on an old 78 for the disc art.
Can't wait for the B&N sale to start to pick this up. I have a big list this sale, but this is at the top of it. |

The "Eightball" booklet is a reproduction of a couple of original (very short) Ghost World comics.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
I thought that was just a DVD version. My bad.

I'm thinking it's Wild at Heart. Two wild cacti making a singular heart...... Twilight Time released their disc in April 2014 and they usually have a 3 year lease on their Blu rays.
Hopefully this means Criterion picked it up from MGM. |
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
And hopefully it's finally the un-edited version this time.
|
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
..I would definitely be in for "wild at heart" un-edited on bluray

The international theatrical prints represent an unfinished version of the movie. The American theatrical release was David Lynch's director's cut. |
