..I'm glad I jumped on this..great price..

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Snake's in Texas, y'all. His math was right (for him, because he only thinks of himself)
I hope they don't cancel the $39.99 orders, but they're definitely within their rights to do so. |
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
It's not a drastic price mistake. Barnes & Noble will eventually offer the set at 50% off. Given Amazon's bargaining power with distributors, I suspect this was an intentional loss leader at their unit cost. You start seeing Amazon pull these kind of stunts as they begin to ramp up for the all-important Q3 and Q4.
Criterion pulls in affluent consumer demographics, which is Amazon's primary target. Amazon does very little by mistake... |
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
I checked my order details and it seems they are honoring the price even though it is back up to $99.99. As a couple of folks already pointed out...with coupons and the 50% off sale this set could probably be acquired for $60 or more off of the msrp. Since I do not do the Barnes and Noble thing I am glad I got in on the $39.99 + tax price. A 3 disc criterion for less than 44 including tax and shiping works for me.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
However it happened, it hit #1 on Amazon's bestseller list (Bluray/Action&Adventure). Pretty good for a pulpy samurai series.
For as long as it stayed up, I'm also beginning to suspect it might have been something to drive traffic. |

Yeah, but getting it for $40 on amazon means we get it when it's released and won't have to wait for the B&N sale.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Well, I bought it last night, but I didn't realize my wife had let the Prime expire to try to save us some money. She noticed the shipping charge today, reactivated our Prime and tried to redo the order but Amazon wouldn't do it at the old price. Apparently shipping for one Bluray set was $10.38 without Prime? Is that normal?
I'll wait till November, it'll be fun making the trip to the local store in Oak Brook and seeing all the Christmas decorations. |
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Amazon is one strict little cookie, nowadays, eh?
|
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
I meant the high shipping charge. We've had Prime for so little no I don't remember what they used to be like.
|
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Not sure about the high shipping charges either, I always make the formerly $35 threshold or now $49 for free shipment.
Just thought they would at least honor the $39.99 price after reactivating your prime. |

I guess the Before Trilogy.
I hope they'll offer Before Sunrise separately. I liked the two sequels, but I think the first one stands out as the best and is much more re-watchable IMO. |

Looks like the Del Toro trilogy boxed set will come in a square box:
https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon....L._SL1500_.jpg I wonder what the dimensions on that are, and what the inside looks like... (Criterion's facebook page has annactual photo of the box.) |

Why does he compare the Pan's Labyrinth Criterion Blu-ray to the DVD? Why not compare it to the existing Blu-ray?
|
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
New releases are only compared to whatever old releases were originally reviewed on the site. I assume that for whatever reason, the original BD was never reviewed.

..the animiego bluray of lone wolf and cub looks much better than the criterion release..

I wonder why Criterion didn't add subtitles to Shogun Assassin? It seems like an oversight to me as they add subtitles to ALL of their movies.

In the review he says the Criterion is vastly superior to the Animiego as it has a lot of edge-enhancement. As far as the stills, some look better than others, but overall the Criterion looks better to me, also, it has white subtitles to Animiego's yellow, and I like white subs much better. I didn't know we were getting Shogun Assassin in this set - so stoked!

WTF? It has SHOGUN ASSASSIN too. WTF. That's badass. Fuckin' A, motherfuckers. That one is fun as hell.

Does it need them? It's a dubbed film, unless you have hearing issues and need the subs. I do agree, though; should've been an easy addition. I know it's technically only a bonus feature so it won't keep me from buying but it's a strike against the company overall. |

I presume most people have purchased the existing Blu-ray, as it was very inexpensive. I'd like to know if it's worth upgrading. |
