the UK BFI edition though is better with the full length commentary track.
I'm at a point where supplements don't matter much, especially commentaries - which I've rarely listened to in the first place. Hard to watch supplements when I could be watching another film. There's only so much time in the day. |

Crazy guess, maybe the California Raisin represents The Big Chill. The first song is "I heard it through the grapevine".

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
If Umbrellas of Cherbourg is legit then hell yes. I've been wanting Criterion to get that for years.

Ya know, I'm really getting sick of these stupid games Criterion plays.
Why don't they just tell us what fucking titles they're working on? |

There was no hint for "Y Tu Mama Tambien" so maybe this is the year that they are going to finally release the movie.

Still waiting for Y Tu Mama Tambien. Been years since they gave that hint...I'm still waiting for it.

I don't mind Criterion using the doodles every New Year for their upcoming titles. My problem is that they make us wait 2-3 years for some of these releases...At least release all of those movies clues within the calendar year.

Exactly. Don't tell me when exactly it's coming out. Just tell me every once in a while how it is coming along or something.

The behind the scenes stuff on this can be very contentious. Criterion was working with Lynch on an Eraserhead release, and somebody leaked that it was being worked on, and Lynch flipped out and pulled the plug. I can definitely see them being gun shy when it comes to announcements, considering that they have to license every title and appease who knows how many egos per release.

The New Year's drawing is basically a marketing gimmick, are not binding in any way, and in my opinion kind of fun. Every once in a while there's a situation like Y Tu Mama Tambien and unforseen circumstances keep them from releasing something right away. Otherwise, they usually deliver on their teases. Between the monthly release announcements, the monthly newsletter clues, the New Years drawing, their facebook page, and the annual Wexner Center talk, I feel like Criterion keeps its fans pretty well informed on what's going on. That said, I need Picnic At Hanging Rock and I need it NOW! |
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
I'm far more interested the prospects of Criterion putting out a blu-ray of Lynch's Mulholland Dr. than Eraserhead.

That being said, I'll take all the Lynch I can get. |
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
IIRC, the Eraserhead debacle was in the DVD era, and the falling out with Criterion prompted Lynch to release the DVD independently through his website.
And I would kill for Criterion to release any Lynch film on BD (except for Wild at Heart or Inland Empire, both of which I'd be happy to never watch again). |

Anyone know what Criterion's relationship with Lionsgate is? I just sent them an email recommending Paris is Burning for a release... Wondering how possible that would be.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
About Prince of Tides, all of this is from this thread at the HTF:
http://www.hometheaterforum.com/topi...es-ld-recall/: Criterion says: Doogan: ...Does Criterion still have stuff in the vault that's never been released but has been mastered, special-editioned and, in the long run, you couldn't do anything with it? Becker: No. The closest to that was The Prince of Tides. With the problems we had many years ago on the laserdisc. That was simply a matter of Barbra Streisand quite rightly having found some typographical errors in the supplement and thinking better of a couple comments on the commentary track and asking us to change it, which we laboriously did over the course of a year-and-a-half. It lead to some delays, but in the end was more or less the identical disc to the one that we had originally produced with a couple of errors corrected and one or two (not terrifically significantly) comments lost from the commentary track. In what turned out to be a very costly problem for Criterion, Barbra Streisand had COMPLETE control of the LD, and had final approval. The entire project met with her approval every step of the way, and the disc was pressed. But when a copy was given to Streisand for the final sign off, she refused to give it — she was very unhappy with the way she sounded in her commentary track, and wanted to do it over. There were also a few minor items in the supplementary material she wished to revise. And since she had final approval and creative control over the LD, Criterion had no choice but to follow her instructions and start work on revising the LD. |

I've heard behind the scenes stories about her changing stuff constantly, and then deciding to can the release. That's about it. Maybe we'll find out more one of the days... *Doh, sorry, Flansered's post just about covers it. fitprod |

I dunno. Maybe she's just a bitch?
Personally though I've never gotten what made her an awesome actress. |
