re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Here's an e-mail I received from Criterion back in June when I asked them about obtaining replacement slipcovers or booklets:
Replacement packaging, including booklets, covers, and slip cases, are $5 each. This includes shipping and handling.
Payment can be made, via PayPal to [email protected]. Please include your name and address in the message field, along with the items you are ordering, and as soon as we receive payment, we'll ship your item(s) to you!
Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns. Thank you for supporting the Criterion Collection!
Best,
Jon Mulvaney

I wonder why they have a plastic replacement case for Marienbad, I always assumed that packaging was "on purpose" (like Sweet Smell or Amacord) rather than their flimsy first-print blu-rays.

I had no idea they were selling the clear cases (without artwork) as well. I remember getting a box of them from their supplier.

Have all the titles released in the digipak type case been converted to the normal plastic case or do you have to purchase the replacement case/art for those titles to have them in that type of case?

they should be, but many locations still have the digipak versions.

Beaver reviews for the Trilogy of Life are up:
The Decameron
reviews have pictures/images which might be considered 'not safe for work':
The Canterbury Tales
Arabian Nights

When did CC start doing playback on their BDs? With this sale going on I've gotten some of the newer BDs and they have playback. I think that's awesome of them. We really need Universal and Disney to start doing that, among others. Playback should have always been a natural for BD.

... but movie playback capability is still a plus.

Do you think Criterion would ever release Bowling for Columbine, Fahrenheit 9/11, and Sicko on Blu? I could only imagine them being successful catalog Blu releases only through CC. Controversy aside, BfC and F911 are two of the most notable films from the 2000s.

What makes you say this? I think they're pretty popular catalog titles, or at least as popular as a political documentary can be. That being said they're not the kind of films I'd upgrade to blu ray.

Just release Hoop Dreams, mastered from the original video elements instead of the up-converted film master, and I'll be happy. At least Hoop Dreams is a more legit documentary than the current crop of political agenda crap...

I can tenuously accept Michael Bay being in the collection, but not Moore. Never.
