Popping in for some Wes Anderson news...

Nothing.

Sigh. Carry on.

See you in 2014 Gizmo.

I think Devil's Backbone is at the top of my want list from Criterion this year.

The Decalogue? It revolved around an apartment complex, and there seem to be about 10 other clues. I'm not sure exactly how many.

There are 9 stories in the building and in Short Cuts.

I'm guessing Man on Wire will get a Criterion release... it sort of seems like a Chaplin in suggested by this too. Otherwise, I can't think of anything.

Yes, but I think it's set up to be both films. The food works for both obviously, and being naked is for Naked Lunch and it's a female that has hair like Babette.

Dekalog would be nice, but there are only 9 "stories" in the building and it doesn't look like the same type of apartment building.

Anything in this drawing to hint at Shivers?

I read that, according to Alex Cox, Criterion has licensed all the same extras from the MOC release, including the TV cut. I'm speculating that it'll more or less be the same as the MOC release.

Now I have the MOC release (in steelbook, no less), but I might be tempted to grab the Criterion release, even if it ends up being the same, just so I have better freedom to play it (MOC's release is region locked; while I have a region free player, none of my friends do, so if I wanted to bring it over to watch, I'd need a Region A release).

Good to know. I'd get just because I'm a CC collector anyway. Thanks for the info.

I believe it's refering to Pierre Etaix's Yoyo.

Really, Gizmo? There's like one Wes Anderson movie not already on Criterion Blu-ray and that's not "progress" enough for you?

I wonder if it might refer to multiple movies, possibly including Chaplin's The Circus.

Criterion tweeted yesterday about liking the cover art of a new edition of the 1984 book. I'd love to see it released!

The '84 film was recently taken off Netflix streaming. Maybe they're planning a dual release with the '56 version.

Does Criterion release their upcoming titles on the 3rd Monday of each month or are they just running behind a bit this month?

It's usually on the 15th of each month unless it's a weekend.

Are you two talking about the movie of Orwell's 1984 or something else?

LPMA 01-15-13 11:48 AM

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

I was talking about Orwell's book, and referring to the 1984 adaptation. I think the subsequent poster suggested they could have a dual release of the '56 and the '84 adaptations.

There has been a lot of talk about the new 1984 cover. I don't think that necessarily means Criterion will be releasing it. I'd love it if they did though.

I'm excited to rent the Etaix set. His films are apparently pretty great, but up until now they've been completely unavailable outside of theatrical screenings.

This kind of set - which apparently contains his entire filmography - is exactly the kind of thing I love seeing from Criterion.

Repo Man will also have the "cleaned up TV version", what is that?

The broadcast television version.

Masters of Cinema also included it on their release. Here's their description of it:

the legendary and complete “TV version” of the film as prepared by Cox for network television in the 1980s which incorporates deleted material and surreal overdubs in place of profanity

Actually, I was hoping for the generic type cover; the white with the blue band.

Hopefully it'll be a double-sided, reversible cover with that on the other side.
