Popping in for some Wes Anderson news...
Nothing. Sigh. Carry on. |
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
See you in 2014 Gizmo.
I think Devil's Backbone is at the top of my want list from Criterion this year. |
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
The Decalogue? It revolved around an apartment complex, and there seem to be about 10 other clues. I'm not sure exactly how many.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
There are 9 stories in the building and in Short Cuts.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
I'm guessing Man on Wire will get a Criterion release... it sort of seems like a Chaplin in suggested by this too. Otherwise, I can't think of anything.

Babette's Feast is for the same clue that could also be Naked Lunch. I don't know anything about either film, but it sure looks like a 'naked lunch' to me.
Dekalog would be nice, but there are only 9 "stories" in the building and it doesn't look like the same type of apartment building. |

I own the Repo Man MOC Blu-ray and am anxious to see how CC will improve on that edition. Repo Man MOC Blu-ray went on my top Blu-ray list.
Now I have the MOC release (in steelbook, no less), but I might be tempted to grab the Criterion release, even if it ends up being the same, just so I have better freedom to play it (MOC's release is region locked; while I have a region free player, none of my friends do, so if I wanted to bring it over to watch, I'd need a Region A release). |

I read that, according to Alex Cox, Criterion has licensed all the same extras from the MOC release, including the TV cut. I'm speculating that it'll more or less be the same as the MOC release.

Good to know. I'd get just because I'm a CC collector anyway. Thanks for the info. |

Really, Gizmo? There's like one Wes Anderson movie not already on Criterion Blu-ray and that's not "progress" enough for you?

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
I think he's waiting for the Life Aquatic blu. I hope he's not holding his breath for a Mr. Fox release.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Criterion tweeted yesterday about liking the cover art of a new edition of the 1984 book. I'd love to see it released!
|
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
The '84 film was recently taken off Netflix streaming. Maybe they're planning a dual release with the '56 version.
|
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Does Criterion release their upcoming titles on the 3rd Monday of each month or are they just running behind a bit this month?
|
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
It's usually on the 15th of each month unless it's a weekend.
|
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
whisperings of a blu-ray upgrade for Band of Outsiders and the release of Devil's Backbone being announced today.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
I was talking about Orwell's book, and referring to the 1984 adaptation. I think the subsequent poster suggested they could have a dual release of the '56 and the '84 adaptations.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
There has been a lot of talk about the new 1984 cover. I don't think that necessarily means Criterion will be releasing it. I'd love it if they did though.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Meh.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
I'm excited to rent the Etaix set. His films are apparently pretty great, but up until now they've been completely unavailable outside of theatrical screenings.
This kind of set - which apparently contains his entire filmography - is exactly the kind of thing I love seeing from Criterion. |
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Repo Man will also have the "cleaned up TV version", what is that?
|

Masters of Cinema also included it on their release. Here's their description of it:
the legendary and complete “TV version” of the film as prepared by Cox for network television in the 1980s which incorporates deleted material and surreal overdubs in place of profanity |
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
This is for April, right?
edit: Thanks |
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Yes, these are their April releases.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Holy hell, what a fantastic month! The Repo Man is a bit ... green but I like it.
|
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
May blind buy Repo Man.
|
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
I need to see Repo Man.
