Anyway, it's not the most exciting of months - there's no real "stand out"/"must own immediately" titles, in my opinion - though I am quite excited for the Kaurismaki set and for the two horror films. I've heard mixed things about "Identification of a Woman," but since it's one of only three Antonioni films I haven't seen I'll at least have to give it a rental.

I'm definitely planning on Dazed And Confused and Island Of Lost Souls. The other titles will end up being ones I grab eventually.
Well, as Sondheim said, it's one of two IFC titles (along with Following) that we're still waiting on. Their initial 2011 drawing had a clue for it, so assuming it hasn't gotten pushed back, it could still show up in Nov. or Dec. Otherwise, it wouldn't surprise me to see it make an appearance in the beginning of next year.
I'm looking forward to it just so I can upgrade it to Blu...

Pretty solid month, suffice to say I'm most excited for Dazed & Confused. This and the Fear & Loathing release have made me a Spartacus believer.

Personally, I find this a very exciting month. Much more so than last month's announcements. Super excited to upgrade Salo & Dazed. My only disappointment was that Onibaba wasn't upgraded to pair with Kuroneko.

"The Phantom Carriage" alone makes September a more exciting month for me - not to mention the two previously unavailable Chabrols.
Though after watching some of their music videos, I think "Leningrad Cowboys" might go on my "must pre-order immediately" list.

It's a question of arty vs. pulpy. I like both, but do have an affinity for the pulp, therefore a horror heavy month resonates for me. Plus I love Dazed!

Man, I may have to get Island of Lost Souls. Haven't seen that in ages.
Y Tu Mama Tambien is very highly anticipated for me also. But of course not everything the CC announces makes it out when they say it will. We've still got two more months to go in 2011, but it may get bumped to next year.
If the Criterion sale repeats in November as usual, I'm up to three forthcoming releases that will be must buys (Battle of Algiers and The Killing being the other two).
EDIT: That IOLS cover art is pretty damn awesome.

I cant believe people arent more excited by Harakiri (although I realise MoC have already announced it too)!

I just hope November is a bad month considering I will probably be getting quite a bit during that sale... I will upgrade Saló and Dazed and Confused, and get Island of Lost Souls too.

I can't believe that we're finally getting Island of Lost Souls!!! I've been hoping to get that movie for years after seeing a crappy VHS copy and the fact that it's on BD is simply awesome.

That's another one that I still haven't gotten around to watching the DVD of - maybe I'll sell it off and just buy the BD from B & N in November. I love the way that Criterion upgrades end up being basically free - sometimes I even make a few bucks.

Yeah, I'm trying to resist upgrading Criterion DVDs for the time being, but the trade/resale values on them are so high compared to other labels that it's hard to hold out.

I'm underwhelmed by the extras for Kuroneko, especially as Criterion has had the rights to it forever. I may just stick with my MoC. I guess they're saving The Game for November.

Dazed & Confused and Salo? Nice! I didn't think there were any upgrades this go-round.
And I'm def in on Island of Lost Souls and Kuroneko.

I just bought Palindromes yesterday, and once LDW comes out I'll snatch it up during the B&N sale. I really want to see more Solondz added to Criterion.

noirfan,
It is, along with Seven Samurai and Samurai Rebellion, one of the definitive samurai films.
I believe Miike is doing a remake too :
