Not interested in Apocalypse Now unless the original cut is included.

No kidding. I suppose it's a good sign they're releasing another catalog title which wasn't on HD DVD - it just happens to be a stinker.

Flippers dead? They don't seem to be releasing anything on Flippers besides the Bourne titles and that 3 title wave.

^Now if only they'd hear the DNR outrage, we'll be in good shape But I agree with most around here - The Black Dahlia? Are you shitting me? One of the worst movies I've seen in recent memory.

Could be retailers didn't want to dump DVD so soon with these replacements.

I'm not sure what leads you to that conclusion. There was a 3+ month gap between Bourne and the last batch of flippers, which came out barely a month ago. I doubt they're scrapping it after 2 small waves, both of which probably have seen pretty normalized sales for catalog titles.

3 Bourne titles and 3 random catalog releases. Since Bourne came out Universal has announced - and released - a bunch of Universal BDs. All non-flippers. Either sales were not high enough to continue with the Flippers or retailers didn't see an big enough increase in sales to dump their current DVD copies for these DVD/BD Flippers (which was the whole idea). Universal will likely try again, but by skipping several releases they might just not see them being needed right now (or anymore).

I'd buy "The Skeleton Key" if it were a flipper. With a good movie on one of the sides.

For anyone that cares, The Illusionist came out today and was a BD + DVD Package. As one might expect, the BD has no Special Features but the included DVD does.

It's been reported that the BD is the same disc from the Alliance release. Peoples' biggest complaint though is that there are supposedly no English subtitles on the Blu-ray.

Fuck Fox, though.

Yes, DVDBeaver reported this. Same disc. Which I'm kind of glad of. Because I already have it. And I'm happy with the PQ.

Definitely picking this up (I've held out the whole time for an eventual BD release). But between this, Walk The Line theatrical only, and a likely Predator hack job, Fox is starting to get a little sketchy on their catalog releases. (and they've started using the Eco cases - even more points off)

Started? They were actually the first studio to use them, and they've been using them for about a year now....

Same here. I was trying to look for a place to report that bit of news but didn't find any dedicated thread for the Fox release. I'm glad I didn't hold off getting the Alliance release when it was $4.99 a month or so ago.

For the MGM stuff, yes, but I'd never gotten a Fox title using one until recently.

Re: Blu-ray release announcements - Part IV

Yeah, this is new from just Fox. (not a repackage of a previous BD release)

When I bought Big Trouble In Little China last year, it came in an eco-case.

There are new Eco cases. No more holes through plastic, just a lighter.
