Damn, got the set yesterday and I have to say the packaging is horrible. I read how everybody was upset about the packaging and thought it couldn't possibly be that bad that it would bother me. Guess I was wrong because it does bother me that they're not in cases just envelopes basically.

They are Blu-ray Discs, so even with the less than ideal packaging, you'd be very hard pressed to find anyone who has scratched discs, due to the scratch resistant coating they have....I would think that these containers could potentially cause some with DVDs, but I have found DVDs to get visible scratches and marks from even the lightest minor scuffs, while you pretty much have to be purposefully trying to scratch a BD to do any damage....
Add me to the list of folks who dislike the packaging (for the size, not the sleeves), but it's also kind of cool in that it will get a place of honor on the living room shelf.

Set arrived today. Box and discs are undamaged.
Packaging for discs not as bad as I heard but wish there was an episode guide.

I ended up canceling my order. $150 just seemed like too much for a show I've never seen. I'm sure I'll find some similar deal on Black Friday if I still want to get it. Until then I can just Netflix it.

I may be missing something, but it looks to me like Netflix only has Season 4.5 on Blu-ray. The other BSG episodes appear to be DVD only. You might start the first season in standard definition to see if you like it enough to buy the Blu-ray set later.

As someone — perhaps the only one here — who watched the first season and didn't like it, I think that's a wise decision. It was a poor blind buy for me. If you love it, as so many seem to, your plan to buy the BDs on sale later should save you money.

Yeah, I was in the same boat as Supr and I almost went ahead a blind bought it, but decided against so I just started to rent from Netflix and so far ive really enjoyed the series. Wish it was in HD, but oh well.

Mine came yesterday in a giant ass box that's 3x the size of the set.

Have you seen or heard of anyone doing a custom collection for the BD series yet? I checked R1 a few weeks ago (first time in forever) and didn't really see anything.

I don't think the packaging is AS BAD as everyone else seems to. That said, it should have been a lot smaller. Still, it managed to fit on my shelf with my other Blu-ray's which makes me find it a lot better than most of you surely do. It was a welcome thing to come home to after an orientation event I went to this week. There it was - waiting for me. I'm very excited to have it. No regret.

Oooh. I said that myself until I started watching it about 2 seasons in. I was hooked. Well worth it. Best show on TV, bar-none, sci-fi or otherwise.
