As with any Universal release, I'll have to see some caps first.

The Dutch version is getting a digibook. Hopefully the US does as well.

Can someone please explain why everyone is hot and bothered about getting that new doc? I've heard little about it, and was wondering how it's better (or just different) than that 2 hour one that was out with the laserdisc and DVD.

Re: Jaws - 8/14/12

IIRC, the full version is 4 hours and VERY extensive. Much more so than any previous doc.

Re: Jaws - 8/14/12

My love for this film has grown immensely over the past year or so. I've always viewed it as a great film(probably would have passed on the BD release), but for whatever reason, my love for it grew more when one of the HD channels was airing it last summer. Probably watched it a few times.

Now I can't wait for the Blu, especially now that the Shark doc is included.

I've always thought it was only two hours, but it is completely different from the previous doc on the earlier disc releases. TSISW is fan made.

Fan made as Trevor said. Very extensive. Narrated by Scheider himself, I believe (which gives you an idea of how long this has been out there without a home video release). Many of the principals, including Spielberg, participated.

I too have been wanting to see this for a long time. Now they just have to give us a decent transfer for the film.

Re: Jaws - 8/14/12

Some of the footage from TSISW, most notably the Scheider interview, was chopped up for the AMC Jaws doc that came out last year (or 2010?).

Damn I miss this guy: Jaws wouldn't have been JAWS without him.

The whole cast just seemed perfect. Could you imagine another actor playing Quint?

You're right on both counts...completely different (and word is better - I, like many others, have never seen it) than the doc that was on the DVD releases and the running time is about 2 hours.

Apparantly, Universal bought the doc's official website, as it now links to the Jaws on Blu-ray site.

Re: Jaws - 8/14/12

Pretty interesting video. I've never actually seen how a wet gate works until now.

I hope Spielberg had enough clout to prevent us from getting a transfer that's been manipulated excessively, in the typical Universal way. For my money, this is one of his very best films.

Wait for the specs first and look over them carefully. If the documentary isn't in HD, for example, it might be PAL and unplayable on most US TVs.

Sure hope so, because I am very frugal in what I pay for my Blu's but in this case I would make an exception if need be. MUCH BETTER than the crappy special cases they have been using for all their releases here in the states this year IMO.
