Re: Jaws - 8/14/12

My Best Buy was out of stock on both blus and down to 4 DVDs when I stopped in around 3pm on release date. They have yet to restock...

Those are the footnotes from the text of the digibook. Not sure why they printed them there.

I understand what you're saying. I think some people may only have memories of crappy versions seen on a regular SD TV (broadcast and VHS) and this is the first time seeing it in HD. It might also come from disappointment in subpar HD transfers. It's always nice when it's done right with films that are our favorites.

I doubt they would say "limit two per store", them immediately thereafter say "limited quantities". Um...yea, I got that from the first sentence.

I counted three in my smallish store: mine, two on the shelf, and maybe others which had already sold or pulled for pickup. Also, don't forget about BB employees who have first pick!

It's the footnote cites for the text in the digibook.

But then they should say "ibid" if they repeat the same source repeatedly, not repeat the entire link in its entirety.

Any other opinions on the digibook? I was interested in it, but wasn't sure if it was worth the extra cost. Then when I saw the posts about some having trouble locating it, I went ahead and ordered the regular release from Amazon since I had some credit there.

i actually read and love the book it comes with. some stuff is rather interesting about how some were cast (Schieder, Shaw) and who was asked first and stuff, Spielberg's legacy and coming to the project. never read my other digibooks, not yet anyway, but Jaws was very well done.

Depends on if your're into them or not. Overall, I'm not a fan of them, yet I did pick it up, mostly because I was wondering if they'd get as scarce as they have apparently become. I did enjoy reading through it though, it's packed with a lot of good stuff.

Decided the hell with it and ordered the digibook from Amazon Canada. I ended up paying more than I wanted but I'd rather buy from them than pay money to the eBay bastards or wait for Best Buy to get more in stock (if they even do).

My local Best Buy just got a few of the digibooks in stock. Just placed an order for in-store pickup.

Scored a copy of the digibook at Best Buy ... an hour away. I was going to get an extra copy (or two) to help out some folks hunting for it, if they were available, but this was the only, lonely one on the rack. After the $3 Uni anniversary coupon, it was ~$23.50 out the door.

I can't believe this will hold its value. I guess it's possible the digi won't have a wide release, but I can't believe it. I have the UK steelbook pre-ordered, so I didn't rush out for this, but I'd like to get a copy someday. I guess there's always the canadian version.

I'm starting to think even when/if Best Buy gets more stock, it's clear they're going to sell out. I doubt we'll see any in the shelves come the holiday season.

I checked Best Buy's site shortly before heading to work, and they HAD gotten 4 in stock at my local store. I ended up running over there, and after about 20 minutes (due to a receiving error on their end), the very helpful associate I had found me a copy. Thanks to the $3 Universal coupon and my girlfriend's "spirit card" she bought at a school fundraiser (which gets us 10% off at this Best Buy), I got it for $19.49 + tax...

Re: Jaws - 8/14/12

Are you kidding me???????? I just sat down to watch the actual movie. I loaded up on extras the last couple of days.

The picture is an absolute work of art. I never thought I would see my favorite movie looking so pristine.

Kudos to Universal for giving this great movie the treatment it deserves.

For all the fuss and fanfare I've heard about it, I thought "The Shark Is Still Working" was a rather average documentary...a lot like what you'd see on a made-for-cable-TV special. Even though I've seen it at least a half dozen times now, Laurent Bouzereau's "The Making of JAWS" is still the gold standard...that thing is almost as good as the movie itself.

Completely agree. It was relatively boring to me. The older Making-Of is superbly produced and offers much better information regarding the film. It ranks up there with "Terror Takes Shape". Both offer some terrific inside info.

3 of my stores are now showing stock for the digibook. Looks like these are trickling back in.

I'm about halfway through TSISW and I have to agree with your assessment as well. It isn't bad by any means, but when you have Laurent Bouzereau's "The Making of JAWS" to compare it to, it doesn't stand much of a chance to shine.

Also, is it me (or my television), or does TSISW look like this was converted from a low resolution web video?

Well, I was disappointed it wasn't an HD feature...and really shocked that it wasn't even anamorphic. As an introduction to JAWS it's a solid documentary (although the quick edits/cut drove me crazy after a while), but as something that's been labeled over the years as a documentary made by people who love JAWS for people that love JAWS, it's sadly lacking. The best parts are the video clip of Spielberg watching the Oscar nominee announcements and Spielberg talking about how he used to hang out in the Orca when no one was looking (and how pissed he was when they chopped it up!).
