I completely missed that this was coming out. Someone please help me not have to read this whole thread - what stores are offering what packaging, please? Do some stores have exclusives?

Re: Jaws - 8/14/12

only BB US has exclusive packaging with a Digibook that includes a nice 10+ book with some interesting tidbits and info on the movie, casting, major players, poster art, etc...

you may or may not still be able to get this in US BB stores. though Amazon.ca has this as well for much more than US has it for.

Best Buy has an exclusive digibook (if you can find one); the UK has a steelbook. Sweeden has a nice package that includes the "Memories from Martha's Vineyard" book and some photo stills. But I think the BB digibook is the only exclusive within the United States.

Thanks. So the version on Amazon is pretty much just the Blu-ray / DVD / Ultraviolet for $20?

Correct. It comes with a nice slipcover that opens, but that's about it

My local BB did restock the digibook today. I grabbed one via in-store pickup but when I got there they had pulled the DVD version not the digibook. Luckily they still had a couple copies on the shelves... I grabbed one and the remaining ones were going fast.

Re: Jaws - 8/14/12

So... since this thread is so heavily about Best Buy this week.. thought I'd add this little story. Went to the West Hollywood Best Buy (on La Brea) thursday night. No Jaws, as expected, but I asked about Royal Tenenbaums and the girl at customer service told me they had 15 of them in stock. I had already scoured the shelves and didn't see so much as a hanging tag for Tenenbaums so I asked if she could check the back and she happily did. She came back with a copy for me and told me they were all still in the box in the back... seriously. The clowns there, two days after the release and during an advertised discount, still hadn't bothered to unpack them and put them on the shelf. And this is in the heart of the world's movie capital. Is there no management at these stores anymore? FAIL.

You assume every store is 100% caught up on their shipments and inventory. Not saying this store isn't, but to assume everything goes as planned (and wanted) in Retail is silly.

Retail stores usually get shipments of New Releases as well as restock releases, on top of whatever else the store sells. Some stores get these type of shipments separately, some don't.

I love these forums when regarding Retail stores. Get what you want/get a coupon granted? Short message.

The opposite happens? Name calling and long/drawn out messages.

The main issue with your particular store, is the Inventory Team scanned the box of those releases as received in the system, but didn't put them out on the shelves. Hence why they showed up in the system, but not physically.

They're advertising that particular release pretty heavily this week and even discounting it. They didn't even have the price tags hanging from the general shelf or in the New Releases section (which they always do at BB). Customers like me were wandering around looking for it while they sat in a box, two days after the release. Meanwhile, there were 8000 copies of The Lorax all over the place. Someone didn't do his/her job.

I WANT brick and mortar stores to survive. I spend money there because I value them and don't want to see them disappear... but this silly half-assery is part of why Amazon is wrecking these stores. I've been driving all over L.A., a major metropolitan area and still haven't found a single copy of Jaws (this is more an underestimation of the demand issue, not an employee issue, obviously, but BB majorly dropped the ball on this too). Had I ordered from Amazon, I'd have had both in my hands on day one. I assume these stores want to sell things, right? They should tell their employees to unpack the boxes.

^I have to say I agree, I drove way out to a store that had a full box of ten(JAWS), according to another store, I got there, I had to ask for it, the employee brought the box out, gave me one, & returned the box to the back room. Unbelievable.

Best Buy doesn't give a flying farq about optical media any more. Back in the day, everything would be out on new release Tuesday by the time they opened. These days the demand is nowhere where it once was, and they're much more concerned about selling flat screens and vacuum cleaners than discs. Sad but true.

And you considered this ok?

Like lamphorn, I like going the B&M stores to buy things, but situations like this make it harder to do so.

Re: Jaws - 8/14/12

Last night my local Best Buy was showing 'Unavailable' on the dot-com
This morning it's status changed to 'Available', so I called the store.

The person on the phone swore there were none in the store.
Even though BB online said they were in stock.
Anyways, I ordered online for in store pickup. An hour later, I received confirmation that my order was ready.
Just got back from picking up the Digibook.

Long story short...the Best Buy in Erie, PA has some in stock, but to get them, you may have to order online for pickup.
This could be the case at other BB's as well.

Several digibooks at the Gaithersburg store.

Buying a ~60" TV and stereo system to enjoy my favorite film my next day off.

I don't consider it ok. When I used to work retail I was an Operations/Inventory Manager. I always had a dislike for stores who didn't have their Inventory close to running well when they had the ability.

I'm just tired of seeing so many people name call employees here on the forums whenever things don't go as planned.

I know this isn't always the answer, but if your Store Management isn't competent, just ask for the District Manager's number and contact him/her directly. Enough complains to a DM will have him/her breathing down a store's neck in no time to get them on top of things. Hell, even making sure you talk to a General/Store Manager about any complains helps.

Back on topic, I need to get this release already.

True. It's probably where much of their daily totals come from at the store level. Big ticket items and add-ons to go with them.

And that's probably why they're struggling to badly. Things like Blu-rays, DVDs and CDs get people in the door, then those people end up buying other things.

Same thing happened at my store on Thursday afternoon. The system said they had nine copies and after 20 minutes or so of them searching for them in the back they found all 9 still in the box. I was told that the company that comes in to put out the new releases is terrible at doing their job and it appears that way.

I watched on my 60" with 7.1 surround sound and I have to say after not having seen it in over a decade, I was completely engrossed. Great movie, beautiful picture and nice immersive audio.

I remember when the buzz started about "The Shark Is Still Working" a few years ago, it was described as a 3 hour long documentary. But what's on the new release is about 1 hour and 41 minutes long, so it has been edited down a lot since its original special screenings. Now I wonder what was edited out of that original (I guess "rough?") cut and if anything really good was lost in the editing.

Re: Jaws - 8/14/12

Here's the DVDtalk thread for The Shark is Still Working. Looks like jeffkjoe saw a 2 1/2 hour cut. Looks like the original site for TSiSW now directs to a Jaws on BD page.

Kinda disappointing if they cut it down that much. From skimming the old thread, a lot of the hoopla was because of the extensive amount of interviews collected from everyone that worked on the film. Not your typical puff piece with just the actors/director.

I haven't had a chance to watch it yet. Still looking forward to it.
