I see that Season 2 is $51.99 on Amazon now. About double the price for S1. Still don't see a release date. Do we have confrimation yet that it is in fact being cancelled?

No idea on the date as the show has not been renewed/canceled...they might tie it into Season 3 or the new films release date.

Well, Fox is not bringing it back. Sci-Fi Channel is in talks to bring it back and make it more action oriented (and a smaller budget)...but they said the same thing about Moonlight last year (another WB show). And yes, double the price of S1 since double the episodes (if not more).

Definitely more...Season 1 had 9 (I think?) while Season 2 had 22.

Also, it is NOT confirmed that Fox isn't bringing it back, so please stop spreading false information.

Its not likely. Again, the producers are shopping the show to different networks which is typically a sign it ain't coming back.

Any idea if the UK version would work in a Region A player? Does Sony tend to region code their catalog BDs?

It's region free IIRC.

The 'insider' won't confirm if its MPEG2/PCM or a new MPEG4/TrueHD track though because it might "interfere with sales" And the only current way to buy it is in a 3 pack with 2, 3 year old Blu-ray discs. Major pass for me. I'll possibly rent it.

Sounds like you have your answer, then. How often do the innocent plead the 5th?

Yeah, I figured as much. I had hoped we were done with dusting off old encodes.

Is this about Crouching Tiger? It's newly remastered, AVC encode with TrueHD.

Blu-ray.com lists it as MPEG2 with both PCM/TrueHD. The 'insider' won't confirm if its MPEG2 or MPEG4.

Blu-ray.com says the following:

"Sony Pictures Home Entertainment have announced that they will bring the 'Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Curse of the Golden Flower, and House of Flying Daggers Trilogy' to Blu-ray on July 14th, marking the first time 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon' has been made available in high definition. Video will be presented in 1080p AVC and MPEG-2 accompanied by soundtracks in both 5.1 PCM and 5.1 Dolby TrueHD audio formats."

It's not phrased well, but it indicates that House of Flying Daggers is MPEG-2 with PCM, which is the original configuration, and Curse of the Golden Flower is AVC with PCM, which is also the original configuration.

Crouching Tiger is AVC with a Mandarin TrueHD track.

That's MPEG2. That's Sony circa 2006/early 2007 on Blu-ray. I think the quote from the 'insider' pretty much dooms this to MPEG2.

Edit: I understand you now. They list both AVC and MPEG2 for all 3 releases and the previous 2 were MPEG2 meaning AVC is likely MPEG4. The mention from the 'insider' still makes me wonder.

I wouldn't keep responding to this, but I don't want an assumption/rumor to go around that Crouching Tiger is MPEG-2. It is MPEG-4. PM if you want.

Well at least we have a resident Sony expert to ask :)

This is the IME (HD DVD) version plus some new things. The American release will also be a DigiBook. The date is the same day as Watchmen, 7/24.

I thought it was getting one of those Deluxe packages like I am Legend and the Wizard of Oz. :hscratch:

Maybe retailers finally spoke up and said those giant things (Casablanca, I Am Legend, The Notebook) don't sell? Atleast I can see why WoZ and GWTW might deserve the 'big box' treatment but 300? I Am Legend? No way.

The third and possibly final season of BBC's Torchwood is coming to Blu-ray Disc on September 15 day-and-date with DVD. Seasons one and two are already available on Blu-ray.

Torchwood follows a team of British investigators who use scavenged alien technology to fight real world crime.

Dubbed "Children of Earth," season three plays out like a miniseries with 5 total episodes encompassing a main story arc rather than the traditional 13 episode spans with standalone stories that comprised seasons one and two.

Children of Earth will span two BD-50 discs with a 1.78:1 1080p transfer and 5.1 Dolby Digital audio. Bonus features are not expected to be included in the set.

The MSRPs on these sets are way to high. I luckily picked up S1 on HD DVD for $20 but couldn't pay the high price for S2 and won't for S3 (on Blu-ray). I picked up each season of Life on Mars on Blu-ray from the UK for $22ish and am hoping I can do the same for Torchwood. Looks like a really good series.

Given what PhantomStranger said about Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon last year and the above discussion, I guess I'll just wait for a technical analysis by a trusted reviewer before buying it on BD. Assuming it comes out as a single disc anyway.

I agree I have no desire to purchase the other two films, just might wait and see, possibly purchase the import.

I'd like to know who at Warner Bros. picks what movies to release as digibooks. When Warner announced the digibook packaging, I thought they were only going to release classic movies in that packaging, but now it seems like any random catalog title needing a special edition is fair game for digibook release.
