Warner has far more clout pressing discs then any other studio right now - not only for what happened at the start of the year but because TDK is the "it" movie this year. Criterion has released 0 titles so I'm sure they got pushed back until TDK was done. And from the looks of it, TDK will be given away/packed with almost every BD playing device this Holiday season. We already had two other titles delayed yesterday (Henry Poole, This is Spinal Tap), then we had 8 Mile delayed again pushing some of Uni's unannounced releases now into 2009, and a look at the December release list is fairly bleak for what will be Blu-rays first Holiday season without HD DVD.
TDK will be BD's fastest million seller (Iron Man will probably hit 1 Million "officially" sold by the time it arrives) and it should get first spot being pressed - but this only shows that there is still so some issues with the lines. if BD takes off after Christmas will they be able to keep up with demand? Two BD50 titles have already had to be repressed because of issues (Iron Man and Little Big Planet) so that puts even more strain on this season. All my opinions of course.

Going back to TDK, everyone involved with BD knew they were going to press a crapload of discs. So that info should have been known before Criterion gave us hard release dates. I don't think they got a memo about it last week.

or....they discovered playback issues on older players and rather than pulling a Fox and releasing anyways, they delayed the titles for a month.

The only other issue I can come up with is they decided to use their own special packaging and they had an issue with that.

Edit: Oops. Looks like the Criterion site has them pushed out. Dang!

Just an FYI - Image Entertainment is releasing the Criterion Blu-ray movies (www.homevision.com). They haven't changed the dates yet.

I was under the impression is was from a few reports I had read regarding the title being delayed. I don't have a game (nor a PS3) so I can't check.

More release dates:
Righteous Kill - 1/6 ... (Another winner)
Repo! The Genetic Opera - 1/20 ... (I really enjoyed this, can't wait. Supposedly there's a commentary with Paris Hilton)
Probably already mentioned but:
Martyrs - 2/24 ... (Can't wait for this one, also)

Repo! The Genetic Opera - 1/20 ... (I really enjoyed this, can't wait. Supposedly there's a commentary with Paris Hilton)

Really looking forward to seeing this, too. I'm happy that the Weinsteins are pushing some of the Dimension Extreme flicks out on Blu-ray -- the excellent Eden Lake is coming along in the first week of January -- and they're hitting rather low price points at retail to boot. It doesn't look like King of the Hill, which also comes out in January, is getting a BR release, though.

"Donkey Punch" suffered the same way. I mean, other than the fact that all the kids in that flick are a buncha fucking idiots.

Universal was planning these two (along with Serenity) for a Sci-Fi 3 pack but I beleive both of them were post-poned until 2009. A few other 3 packs may show dates but Universal is done with 2008.

Correct. They were planned but never officially announced - much like the Adam Sandler Collection and Bourne films. All have been pushed back to sometime in 2009 (probably now timed with another Sandler flick and the other Bourne film). There was a handful of other, never announced or mentioned HD DVD ports but those got pushed back as well.
I'm still waiting for some of those Universal flicks that came out after HD DVD died but before they supported Blu-ray like Definitley, Maybe.
