Correct me If I'm wrong, but doesn't the Weinstein's own the rights to Suspiria?
BTW, I'm in for all three of those. Specially "Maniac!" Tom Savini's head explosion in 1080p.

The last release of Suspiria was Blue Underground IIRC. Unless Weinstein bought the rights to it (which they very well may have)... I know Anchor Bay is in the process of losing rights to several of the Halloween titles right now (hence the re-release with the stupid mask to cash in on any last minute sales). Hoping a new studio like Blue Underground gets them and releases some of the hours of footage found a few months ago.

Maniac should have an extra "VHS-quality" version of the movie. Despite the advantages of Blu-ray, seedy, gritty slashers set in the unsafe late 70's/early 80's NYC should is optimal in full screen with loads of grain.
This is the reason why I own Death Wish 2 and 3 on DVD: feels more old school.

From The Digital Bits:
I guess what he's saying is, some movies will be released, not sure which ones, they might, but probably not.

We've gotten another update from our studio and industry sources on great titles that are in the planning or production stages (or both) for release on Blu-ray Disc in 2009. You can reasonably expect to see most of the Star Trek feature films on the format, as well as Chinatown, Deep Impact, The Ten Commandments, Sunset Boulevard, Apocalypse Now, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Saturday Night Fever, Flashdance and The Elephant Man. According to our sources, there's also an outside chance that you MIGHT see Titanic on Blu-ray before the end of 2009. Keep your fingers crossed.
I've also learned, directly from Paramount while visiting the studio with our friends at The Home Theater Forum last week, that the studios is FINALLY working on new HD transfers of Wings (1927) and The African Queen, hopefully for release in 2009 on both DVD and Blu-ray.
As always, keep in mind that these titles ARE unofficial and are subject to change until they're actually officially announced by the studios in press releases and retail solicitations.
Stay tuned...

Columbia House just added Death Proof and Planet Terror to their site with a release date of December 16. For some strange reason, Planet Terror($26.21) is more expensive than Death Proof($21.71). The waiting game begins for the next BOGO with free shipping sale to commence.

Nothing official, but Jeff Kleist (TDB) mentioned that Armageddon may be ready for release when Transformers 2 comes to theaters next year. It's one of the dumbest movies I've ever seen, but I would definitely buy it.

I'm surprised they didn't get Swing Vote out by now. It would have been nice to be able to watch it today. Election's not coming until January either, which is strange.

One of those movies that I first saw on videotape. Fullscreen with just the TV sound, that was one of the lamest movies I had ever seen. When it came out on DVD, even the substandard releases it's received, I actually likes it. The surround sound is what immerses you in the movie.

that's what makes the DTS laserdisc the BEST way to hear the movie - it's louder and superior to the Criterion DVD edition of the film.
