My movie ticket states "Valid Thru 12/08". The full-page printout specifies "Theater Handling Instructions: Expires 12/31/08" and other instructions. I think the 12/31/08 expiration date is the last day for theaters to submit the used movie tickets for reimbursement. I hope I am wrong about this. Next Wednesday (12/10), I am going to try to use one of the James Bond movie tickets. It will be interesting to see if my theater accepts the freebie ticket because of the 12/31/08 "expiration date" or refuses admission because of the "Valid Thru: 12/08" date on the ticket itself. I intend to take the entire full-page printout with me which includes the 12/31/08 expiration date TWICE on the printout.

i haven't purchased any of them because the reviews i have read haven't been good...

if anyone finds others, please post them...

The First Blood and Rambo: First Blood Part II discs are pretty good. Both include all the extras culled from the SE and Ultimate Editions (except trailers...which are included on the last Rambo movie).

BSTNFAN 12-06-08 09:41 AM

Is it possible that 12/08 just refers to December 2008?

flashburn 12-06-08 10:21 AM

It's pretty obvious the "Valid Thru 12/08" simply means till the end of December. It mentions it is valid until 12/31/08 numerous times on the printout.

If you have a Columbia House account, they have B1G1 free on Blu-rays, plus free shipping.

Thread in the DVD Clubs forum here

I keep an open account at CH just for these sales.

Even though there is a dedicated thread in the Clubs forum, I really appreciate the note here.

I rarely visit the Clubs forum, and the only reason I even have my Columbia House account anymore is for the occasional Blu-ray B1G1F. Without a mention in the HD Forum, I would probably have missed the sale.

Thanks!

There really is no reason to buy Blu-rays any other time besides during the CH BOGO sale. There seems to be a glitch also where some preorders will count as a free one as well so I was able to take care of all my preorders all the way to February.

Well, I can think of one reason... selection, or lack thereof.

Have a good one,
George

The printable movie cash tickets have always been like that. The valid through is only specifying a month. So it is valid through December 2008. It is indeed valid until 12/31.

I think the selection is good enough to take care of a chunk of my wants for the next few months. Just think that if they had everything you wanted we would all be broke as a joke until next Christmas. Their "lack of" selection is forceable restraint.

I 100% agree with this statement. My point though was there are Blu Rays out there that CH does not carry. If I were to limit my Blu Ray purchases to CH only, I would miss out on many, and I do mean many, 'must have' Blu Ray titles, IMO.

Luck all,
George

Well if you are looking for indies or lesser known title you have a point. As for most if not all high profile releases, the chance to buy them at 15 bucks or cheaper is a no brainer.

Gizmo 12-07-08 02:22 PM

Grr.. I need to sign up for CH eventually. Is now a good time?

It's always a good time. You may miss out on this current deal, as it may expire by the time you get approved, but there are always bargains to be had.

Over the years I've bought about a thousand movies (most 2 disc SEs), a hundred or so TV sets, and 20 or so blu-rays for less than $6 each.

gryffinmaster 12-07-08 02:44 PM

The Proposition Blu-ray is low again -- $11.99. Granted, that's only 40% off list, but it's still a great deal to own that flick in HD for $12. Though not quite as good as $11, but still.

For the most part, I would agree with you.

The one recent exception would be the $100 off 10 Blu-ray promotion at Amazon, where I averaged $6.69 each for 10 popular Blu-rays.

Awesome PS3 bundle right now.

PS3, Dark Knight blu-ray, Resistance 2 CE for $400

Almost tempted to return my Costco PS3 and buy this, saving almost $200.

$200? It's a savings of around $85 (Cost of Resistance 2 CE and Dark Knight). This 80gb PS3 doesn't have BC and is not the $499 model (which is now a 160gb w/ Uncharted that also does not have BC).

I'm kind of taken aback by how many iterations of the console Sony has put out, I bought a refurbished 60gb for $350 about a year ago, I couldn't imagine paying more for less these days. But ah well.

I paid $500 for the system plus two accessories I didn't need (Costco's bundle really stinks). Add The Dark Night blu-ray and the Resistance 2 CE (both of which I want) and you're almost at $600. So there's the near $200 difference.

Same for BattleStar Galactica Season 1.

Same deal at the Metro Atlanta location. Unfortunately, those are the ONLY HD-DVD deals to be had there.

Thanks!

I found it interesting. Then again, I am a documentary buff.

I saw two of the eps on Discovery HD at my cousin's house a few months ago. It was beautiful and interesting.

But to each their own.

aktick 12-10-08 09:48 AM

I also saw a couple of the eps on Discovery - not exciting, but definitely interesting, and definitely worth $22.49 for me. :)

It's only a bargain in the relative sense of the word, but Amazon.co.uk has the I'm a Cyborg Tartan Blu-ray in-stock for £17.59 -- which, after shipping and everything, should come out to between $27-28.

I just watched the set I got from Blockbuster. It was a good set, PQ and AQ were very good. It was interesting if you like documentaries however there was really nothing new. It was all stuff I'd seen over the years in different version, just not in HD. There was the mini-series a few years back From The Earth To The Moon that went through all this. ALthough it's listed as 4 discs, it's really 6 episodes over the first 3 discs. The 4th is just special features that I'm assuming you need better than a 1.0 profile player because I couldn't access any of the information it.

This set is for the person not that familiar with the missions and wants to learn more, or the person that loves to own this type of thing in HD regardless of the content. Other than that it's a rental.

PopcornTreeCt 12-10-08 12:40 PM

NASA is also a huge waste of the tax payer's money but that's for another forum.

I was not able to place an order for this item:

I'm A Cyborg [Blu-ray] [2006] - Ji-hun Jeong
£15.30 - In stock on 11 December, 2008. Order it now.
Condition: new
Sold by: Amazon EU S.a.r.L.

*** We're sorry. The quantity that you requested is no longer available. The number to the right is the maximum quantity currently available. ***
It lets me get past the charge screen and I get the message. Which is odd since they claim it will be in stock tomorrow (or in a few minutes in the UK.) Perhaps they've already sold the quantity they will receive.
