How would one go about getting Amazon to price match this?

Make sure that you add the Bonds in groups of 2 to receive an additional $5 off of each group($15 total). I was only going to pick up the 6 Bonds, but you would get an extra $50 off if you order 10 titles instead of 6. I decided to grab Ice Age 1 & 2, Live Free or Die Hard and Man on Fire and my total cost for all 10 Blu-rays was only $81.40.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.htm...d_i=B001AQMBIC

EDIT: You don't have to add the Bonds in groups of 2. You can add all 6 and the $15 discount will be reflected during the final checkout screen.

Yesterday, when my order total was $77.xx, this was VERY tempting.

When the prices on all the Blu-rays in my cart dropped today, making the total $66.90, I couldn't pass it up.

I am so dead when this shows up at my house.

I was able to cancel and re-order. Saved exactly $17, but everything is now on backorder. Oh well, I have such a huge backlog and saving $17 makes it very easy to be patient.:)

fumanstan 11-29-08 06:32 PM

Ugh, I caved in and bought the 6 Bonds. Considering I spent $170 at Sephora on make up and beauty products for my girlfriend earlier this morning, I figured it was only fair that I could spend $40 on Blu-rays.

tlwizard 11-30-08 03:19 AM

Finally caved as well once they dropped the prices even more. Went for the 6 Bonds, Ice Age, Mrs Doubtfire, and then Night watch and Day Watch. $66 in total.

You know, if only my family were on top of such good deals, they'd know what to get me for gifts. Being able to get BRDs for around $6 a pop makes me feel incredibly guilty asking them for blu-rays for xmas when I know my gf or brother or mother would probably spend close to $30 at best buy or something. I can't happily unwrap a gift with that kind of feeling.

So, as a result and evidenced here, I end up buying it all for myself leaving them nothing to get me it seems. I'm just thankful that I'm apparently nice enough that they care to try.

I think most people that frequent the bargain forums are in the same boat. I have always averaged under $5 a DVD and under $10 a blu-ray. I can't have my normal shopping pattern friends and family spend triple that in good conscious, so I never ask for movies. Gift cards or clothes or household items are the norm.

There is a $10 off coupon for the Godfather Blu-ray set (in a big flyer for savings on a number of DVDs/Blu-rays) in the Sunday ads.

You may be able to get an additional $10 off if you can get them to match the price in store and apply the coupon. I'm sure this will be a big YMMV.

sbelli 11-30-08 11:46 AM

^^ flix 1, is this just a generic coupon ad? Or a Best Buy ad? I didn't see any such coupon in my Sunday paper, but would love to find it.

Got to the final submit order button and keep getting various errors and messages telling to try again later. :(

Quake1028 11-30-08 01:31 PM

God dammit this better work for me.

Quake1028 11-30-08 01:44 PM

FUCK. Tried in IE and Firefox and no dice. Knew it was too good to be true :(.

conehead433 11-30-08 01:50 PM

I was able to successfully order The Sopranos Season 6, pts 1&2 and The Best Of HD DVD vol 1 for $29.70 after taxes with free shipping. I already had BSG and Heroes but I did let one of my brothers know about Heroes since he was asking about it at Thanksgiving. BTW I was using Opera and experienced a good bit of hang time after clicking on the final submission page. It seemed to take well over a minute before it went to the order confirmation page. I probaly could have saved a few bucks if I had not tossed an email earlier today from Borders with a coupon code. Oh well, I didn't want to miss out.

Does this happen often? I just tried to order the Sopranos sets for my brother and got the same damn error.

Trevor 11-30-08 01:53 PM

I love how clicking the final order button is called a "feature". I get the below message.

"We're sorry. This feature is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later."

Mr. Cinema 11-30-08 01:55 PM

I just went through the order process again and it worked this time.

Of course, both Sopranos sets say "ships in 24 hours", yet my order status shows them as backorder.

Gizmo 11-30-08 01:56 PM

They already canceled by Best of HD Vol 1.

conehead433 11-30-08 01:57 PM

I've already received a confirmation email. You might try Opera, it worked for me.

1 - Their coupons only work from the list price, so they would not have saved you anything.

2 - Don't bet too much on receiving these.

conehead433 11-30-08 02:01 PM

"2 - Don't bet too much on receiving these."

Why not? At some point all the retailers that still have HD DVDs will be unloading them at whatever they can get for them. I was surprised at the ridiculously high prices they had on quite a few of their HD DVDs. When I get a shipping confirmation or cancellation I'll post here.

Gizmo 11-30-08 04:03 PM

Borders also canceled by Sopranos order.

Thanks for the heads-up! Ordered the Planet Earth HD-DVD set as I had $4.98 in Borders Bucks expiring today anyway...after shipping and tax, order total came to $8.15, now to just sit back, cross the fingers and hope this goes through!

BuckNaked2k 11-30-08 05:49 PM

"We're sorry, but due to technical difficulties we cannot place your order at this time. The contents of your shopping cart will be saved so that you may place your order at a later time."

Heroes: Season 1 [HD] Backorder $9.90
Royal Space Force: The Wings of Honneamise [HD] Backorder $9.88
Battlestar Galactica: The Complete Season One [HD] Backorder $9.27
Planet Earth: The Complete Collection [HD] Backorder $9.90

Sub Total: $38.95
Sales Tax: $2.72
Shipping: $0.00
Order Total: $41.67
Crossing fingers but I fully expect this to get cancelled.

tonyc3742 11-30-08 09:03 PM

Ouch. the listing page for Planet Earth now says

Planet Earth: The Complete Collection [HD]
HD-DVD
$98.99
Usually ships in 24 hours.

BSG still says 9.27.

Yeah, these will probably be cancelled. Some manager probably said "Sell this dead stuff, 10 bucks each." "Wait, there's season/box sets in there? Stop stop stop!"

Oh, and nice--the order acknowledgment email says "Backorder" but it says "ships in 24 hours" on
product page.
Are they sanely expecting people to pay full price for any of these? Even ten bucks for an HDDVD movie is too much, I would only pay that if it was a combo disk.

Still coming up at $9.90 in my cart.

Mr. Cinema 12-01-08 05:53 AM

My Sopranos order status has changed to "in process". Looks like it may ship afterall.

Sweet Baby James 12-01-08 09:23 AM

Amazon has Band of Brothers down to $44.99. I was going to get this at Costco later this week for the same price, but this will save me a trip and tax.

Trevor 12-01-08 10:06 AM

Got two orders in, one now says "in process", the other has completely disappeared from my order history. It was there late last night, no sign of it now.

Awesome - my original preorder was placed before 9/1 so I can get the $10 back. And I thought 54.95 was a good price!

Will they really do that? It makes sense why they should, but don't know if they will. Regardless, I just sent an email explaining the situation. Have others had success with this?

I did a bunch of times in September and October.

It really doesn't matter how long it's been since the policy expired. What matters is A) the order was placed prior to 9/1 and B) the item shipped 30 days ago or less.

I had forgotten BoB was available for pre-order that early. Most stuff I've gotten in November was not up until much later. I did get a price match on Heathers too - placed that early August.

melvin 12-01-08 06:37 PM

I ordered Zodiac, Beowulf, and Black Snake Moan last night for $30 from borders. When I kept checking my order history I kept getting the "having trouble processing your request" stuff, but I just checked again and it seems to have gone through. No shipping status yet but keeping fingers crossed... good luck 2 every one

BuckNaked2k 12-01-08 07:10 PM

5 of 5 Borders items canceled.
