I like the packaging too.

Any word on what movies might be in the next series? I read that Vol. 3 is tentatively scheduled for March. I was checking the DVD sets and there doesn't seem to be any clue on what they chose to release.

Did you end up keeping the plastic covers for the box sets? For one of my sets, I couldn't fit it back on after I took it off, and I figure maybe I should just dump 'em.

You mean the plastic covers with "007" printed on them? They are definitely a part of the packaging, so I'm certainly keeping mine.

I read on the internet that the next wave of Bond on Blu-Ray includes:

Goldfinger
Diamonds Are Forever
The Spy Who Loved Me
Licence to Kill
Goldeneye
The World is Not Enough

KILLER!!! The best Connery, Moore, Dalton, and Brosnan films in one swoop! YAY!

Yeah, those were listed a few posts up :)

After Wave 2, that leaves:

You Only Live Twice
On Her Majesty's Secret Service
The Man with the Golden Gun
Moonraker
Octopussy
A View to a Kill
The Living Daylights
Tomorrow Never Dies

Uh oh. Quite a few stinkers in there. I think they shot their load a little too early.

Can't wait for the 2nd wave of Bond on Blu-ray....hopefully best buy continues with the steelbooks.

Matter of taste, I guess. The batch you list has three I want, while wave 2, if reported accurately, only has one.

Supermallet 12-04-08 02:26 PM

I'd still buy all of wave 3 with nary a complaint (although I doubt I would watch A View To A Kill more than once, and that just to see how it looks).

Agreed. My favorite Bond movie is You Only Live Twice.

I'm keeping them but yeah they are a bit of a challenge to get them back on again.

The image of Connery in Japanese face makeup is enough to put that one at the bottom of the Bond barrel.

I honestly don't think I could handle seeing Grace Jones in 1080p.

Ah, but the sight of Japanese cutie Mie Hama frolicking around in that white bikini for 30 minutes is enough to put that one at the top of my barrel.

Octopussy, The Living Daylights, and Tomorrow Never Dies are pretty good.

Whiners. Can't wait to see the chicks in HD on Octopussy. :D

So I've heard INCREDIBLY mixed reviews on the PQ of Thunderball. Can anyone shine a light on the truth for me?

PopcornTreeCt 12-05-08 01:13 AM

I haven't seen Thunderball yet but I was watching a bit of Dr. No and I was blown away. The movie looked like it was filmed yesterday.

I found the vertical streaks running down the frame to be annoying and distracting, but the picture quality also looks really good at times. Overall, the picture quality is inconsistent, but an improvement over the DVD.

Josh Z's review at highdefdigest is the most accurate that I have read:

I finally got a patch for my Power DVD software that allowed me to play the Bond DVD's, so I started at the beginning with Dr. No.

All I can say is - WOW!!! The picture quality is just amazing. The movie looks like it's only 20 or so years old (and restored) rather than 40+ years old. It was well worth the upgrade from DVD.

I'm looking forward to watching From Russia With Love next.

B5Erik 12-17-08 10:17 PM

From Russia With Love - WOW! Every bit as good as the Dr. No transfer.

I can't wait for the next wave of Bond titles on Blu Ray.

DthRdrX 12-18-08 01:20 AM

I just noticed that most of the Bond films are available, I believe, in HD via X-box live. Did anyone rent any of these? How is the quality of the unreleased titles? I'm not even sure if they are the same transfers used on the titles that were just released to Blu-ray. They are probably only 720p though.

Wow. I wonder if Amazon was the biggest seller of the first wave of Bonds.

With the black friday deal, I'm sure they sold a ton, and that was months after release, right?
