Bottle Rocket in your beaver
http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film2/DVDRe...et_blu-ray.htm

ADDITION: Criterion Blu-ray - December 08': Utilizing the same high definition master as the standard DVD from a couple of weeks back, we have essentially the same color palette with better resolution. Technically over 4 times the bitrate. This is a dual-layered Blu-ray with the feature taking up approximately 26Gig of space transferred with the AVC encode. Detail shows a demonstrative improvement. Colors, especially reds, seem far more true. It looks quite impressive.

We have a DTS-HD master track that brings much of the film's score and delightful music to life with selections from Oliver Onions, The Proclaimers and The Rolling Stones. It's not an aggressive track and the mix reflects that but it has a few moments and some subtleties to. This Blu-ray offers only English subtitles as an option.

Extras are duplicated from the recent DVD (see full description below) and thankfully housed all on one disc with many in HD (including The Making of ...,the original thirteen-minute black-and-white short film, The Shafrazi Lectures, No. 1: Bottle Rocket and the Murita Cycles). I actually finished the amusing commentary and it enhanced by strong enjoyment of the film. We also get the liner notes booklet.

Once again Criterion's packaging is fairly basic - a more environmentally friendly cardboard slipcase. I've been enamored with this film for years and it looks and sounds better than ever - personally, a very easy sale. It has a strong recommendation from DVDBeaver.

Out of all the reviews so far, I'm impressed with Bottle Rocket the most. The Third Man review didn't impress me, guess I'll have to check that out in person.

You know, while I couldn't care less, personally, about Bottle Rocket, I'm really glad they picked it for their first batch. From the anecdotal evidence here, a lot of folks are getting it, day one, and that's great, 'cause I really want to see Criterion bang it out of the park financially in their first time at the Blu-ray plate.

Meanwhile, has anyone heard any scuttlebutt on the fate of the rest of the titles from their initial announcement? I'm really itching for a release date for Walkabout!

Yes, yes, yes! I love reading stuff like this: "For an upgrade - this is solely image-worthy but for a Roeg film of this magnitude - it becomes an essential for adopters of this new format - rising the film to new levels of hypnotic gentility. Recommended!"

You love reading stuff like that 'cause it makes your head spin with ludicrous incomprehensibility? That's what it does for me!

How does one "rise" a film, and why is doing so "solely image-worthy"?

As one would expect from the folks at Criterion, Bottle Rocket arrives on Blu-ray looking better than ever. Framed precisely in the film’s original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1 and encoded with AVC Mpeg-4, Bottle Rocket exhibits all the qualities of projected film. Grain is present and delivered in levels appropriate for a twelve year old low-budget film. It’s never distracting and adds to the movie’s remarkable cinematography from Robert Yeoman. The film also displays rich, vibrant colors and many instances of stark primary hues used to highlight the moods of the characters. It’s a stunning presentation that could only be possible with Blu-ray’s exceptional visual fidelity.

Distracting artifacts are also never an issue with Bottle Rocket. I didn’t detect a hint of edge enhancement, haloes, ringing or any of the normal culprits that detract from the viewing experience. Black levels are robust and the film displays an exceptional level of contrast throughout. Image detail is also outstanding with well-defined skin and fabric elements. The image also displays a great sense of dimensionality and depth of focus. It’s worth noting, that as with every Criterion Collection release, the film’s creators were involved in the transfer process. Both Cinematographer Robert Yeoman and Director Wes Anderson supervised the newly minted Blu-ray transfer. Therefore, it’s doubtful that Bottle Rocket will ever look better.

Now there's a logical leap, if ever there was one.

Deepdiscount just emailed that they shipped my Bottle Rocket BD and man who fell to earth BD and t shirt that I placed during the sale. I hope others get their too. I guess if they all ship I'll have 4 shirts.

Silly DD. They sent me a cancellation notice for The Man who Fell to Earth a couple of weeks ago but then shipped it to me today. Meanwhile my DVD Planet copy has already shipped as well. I guess DD will refund my money if I return to sender unopened?

Campbell Fry's broke street on Chungking Express. Given they ran the ads on the original BD date even after they were pushed back, I wonder how long they'd been on the shelf before tonight...No sign of the others in this wave, in any case.

Such pretty, high-definition subtitles.

Stickered at $29.99, but it did not appear to be in their system yet (a manager ended up doing some strange manual-price/store-credit dance with the register I didn't quite follow), and the previous ad they ran for the 11/25 release date had them at $24.99.

So most likely the latter, come Tuesday. Wonder if they'll let me do a price adjustment next week.

Still sitting as open orders at Deep Discount for me. But that's better than my Wall-E and Batman Animated set are both backordered like everyone else in the Bargains section.

Wow, Deep Discount is really sketchy on this one. First I receive a cancellation e-mail about my "Man Who Fell to Earth" BD w/t-shirt, then a shipping notice, and then a 30-day delay notice (after it had supposedly shipped). Yikes.

I asked them to just cancel it since I placed an order with DVD Planet after the cancellation e-mail.

The 400 Blows is listed under Criterion's Coming Soon banner, so I assume that means a Blu-ray release, probably in March along with the four new titles mentioned here.

I'll be skipping all 5. At least my Bottle Rocket shipped.

I assume they may have really shipped it. The same thing happened to me but I have a charge on my credit card for the full amount.
